Abstract

Hundred isolates of Puccinia recondita f. sp. tritici were obtained from varieties of WHEAT at Kharkov region. By this study seventeen known races and several new, unnamed races of P. recondita f. sp. tritici were identified from six commercial varieties of WHEAT at three locations in the eastern forest-steppe region of Ukraine in 2005 and 2006 and tested for VIRULENCE on an international set of eight differential varieties. The most common races in each year were 149, 192 and 61. No isolated found virulent on Lr28 and Lr25. Isolates were polymorphic for VIRULENCE on L2ra, Lr2b, Lr2c, and Lr9. Few isolates of known races and most isolates of the new. unnamed races were virulent on Lr19. The Lr35 genes were also exposed to mixed race inoculum in field plots to tests effectiveness of their resistance. Lines with Lr25 and Lr28 suffered no LEAF RUST damage in the field, and resistance genes with Lr18 and Lr35 showed damage.
