Abstract

Two major problems which are common in most aquatic systems are CORROSION and PRECIPITATION properties of water that create severe problems. Thus, controlling the chemical characteristics of water in such system are very important. In the present study, the Langelir and Rizner indices have been used to evaluate the chemical characteristics of the KAROON RIVER. The values of the aforementioned indices were calculated for KAROON RIVER water at Shoushtar- Ahvaz interval during the years 2003, 2004 and 2005. For this purpose, the data collected from four stations, namely Shoushtar, Arab Hassan, Moleasani and Ahvaz were used. The results of the study showed that the Langelier and Rizner indices value had no considerable variation at different stations, and that these values were approximately 0.3-0.4 for Langelier index and approximately 7 for RIZNER INDEX, which shows that the Karoon KAROON RIVER water is relatively corrosive and has low PRECIPITATION effect.
