STUDYING THE PRIMING INFLUENCE OF SEEDS ON VARIOUS GERMINATION INDEXES OF WHEAT UNDER SALINITY STRESS CONDITION

Abstract

 In order to investigate the effect of osmopriming and hydropriming of WHEAT seed in plant extract and the seed soaking time on WHEAT germination under SALINITY stress condition, an experiment was carried out in a factorial experiment using three factors at two stages in a Randomized Complete Block Design with three replications under controlled conditions at the laboratory of Faculty of Agriculture, University of Mohaghegh Ardabili. The results showed that PRIMING simple effect on all traits studied except root to shoot weight ratio and simple effect of SALINITY for seedling length, leaf number, root to shoot ratio and shoot fresh weight were significant at 1% probability level. The effect of SALINITY by seed PRIMING interaction was significant on root to shoot weight ratio at 5% probability level, while SALINITY by seed PRIMING time interaction was only significant on germination rate at 1% probability level. Comparison of means showed that with an increase in SALINITY, seedling length, leaf number, root to shoot weight ratio and also shoot fresh weight significantly decreased. Also seed PRIMING in distilled water and 25% sugar beet extract increased all studied traits such as germination rate, GERMINATION PERCENTAGE, and NORMAL SEEDLING PERCENTAGE.
