Abstract

According to the nutrient requirements of reared fishes and ornamental species, improvement of dietary quality has an important role on growth performance, preventing disease and reducing feed costs in aquaculture. The use of herbal additives as growth stimulators and safety indicators has been recently more considered because of fewer harmful effects on fish, and the environment compare to chemical additives. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of cinnamon powder regard to its antioxidant activity in the diet of green terror Andinoacara rivulatus on survival rate and hematological parameters. One hundred eighty green terror fries (with initial weight of 1.00±0.5 g and initial total length of 38.00±1.03 mm) divided into five treatments (each treatment with three replicates). Experimental treatments were fed with four diets in concentration of 0.1, 0.2, 0.3 and 1 percent of the cinnamon powder in comparison with diet control (free from cinnamon powder) for 98 days. Evaluating the effect survival (S), Red blood (RBC), hematocrit, hemoglobin, white blood cell (WBC) and the blood-glucose level of each treatment. There was statistically significant difference between fish were fed with one percent of ground cinnamon and control group in WBC, and blood-glucose level. According to the obtained findings in this study, it is concluded that adding ground cinnamon in concentration of one percent to the diet of green terror Andinoacara rivulatus improves WBC and and the blood-glucose level.
