Abstract

This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of dietary supplementation of ALANINE on GROWTH performance, NUTRITION and survival rates in PERSIAN STURGEON (Acipenser persicus) fingerlings under identical rearing conditions. The experiment was performed in a completely randomized design. A total of 600 A.persicus fingerlings with an average weight of 1.5±0.4 g (mean±SD) and an average total length of 6.1±1.9 (mean±SD) cm were randomly allocated to fifteen 50-L aerated tanks (40 fish in each tank) with flow rate of about 0.2 l/min. Fish were fed one of the five experimental diets supplemented with 0 (as a control diet), 1, 2 and 3% of ALANINE for 45 days. Each diet was randomly assigned to triplicate groups of fish. The fifth experimental diets was balanced with (1 plant: 1 animal) protein sources and then was formulated with 3% of ALANINE. The results obtained from this study revealed that there were no significant differences in survival rates among treatments. Maximum weight gain (5.9±1.2 g), body weight increase (1380±288 %) and specific GROWTH rate (5.4±0.4 %) were recorded in fish fed supplemented with 3% of ALANINE. Fish fed diets supplemented with 3% of ALANINE showed significant differences in weight gain, body weight increase (BWI %) and specific GROWTH rate (SGR) when compared with fish fed control diet, diets supplemented with 1% of ALANINE and also plant/animal protein-based diet (1: 1). The results of this study indicated that ALANINE is essential to improve GROWTH performance and NUTRITION in A.persicus fingerlings.
