Abstract

In this research the properties of Polypropylene/Polyurethane (PP/PU) BLENDs as a replacement for PVC in the BLOOD BAGs are studied. Different tests were done on the prepared BLENDs. Morphological studies from cryofracture transverse section of PP/PU BLENDs showed that fractures have taken place in interface of two phases which is because of immiscibility of PP and Pu. Tensile test results showed that PP/PU (20/80) has higher tensile strength than that of PVC BLOOD BAGs. The comparison of the water contact angle results showed that PP/PU (20/80) is more hydrophil than PVC surface. Cell culture experiment showed a compatible cell response with no sign of toxicity for the samples. Hemocompatibility test indicated that the BLEND with 80 % PU is more blood compatible than the commercial BLOOD BAGs.
