Abstract

The effect of CATALYSTs with compound of 38TiO2-36NiO-26C (wt.%) prepared by 20 hours MECHANICAL MILLING and heat treatment at 300, 600, 900, and 1200oC on H2 desorption properties of MgH2 was studied. It is found that H2 desorption capacity of milled MgH2 without CATALYST addition at 350oC is negligible (0.6 wt. %), while CATALYST addition to MgH2 and ball milling decreased the H2 desorption temperature and increased the H2 desorption capacity, significantly. Also, it is found that CATALYST phase structures effect on hydrogen desorption properties of MgH2. Samples prepared by 20 hours ball milling of MgH2 and CATALYST synthesized at 600, 900, and 1200oC which respectively contains Ni, TiO2 (Anatase), and NiTiO3 as a new phase, desorbed 5.3, 4.15, and 6.45 wt. % hydrogen up to 400oC, respectively. In comparison, as-received MgH2 and 20 hours ball milled MgH2 desorbed 0 and 0.6 wt. % H2, in the same condition. Moreover, samples prepared by 50 hours ball milling of MgH2 and CATALYSTs synthesized at 300, 600, 900, and 1200oC, desorbed hydrogen at 205, 210, 225, 200oC with hydrogen desorption of 5.4, 6.3, 7.1, 5.32 wt. %, respectively.
