Abstract

 One of the most discussed potentials related to renewable and eco-friendly energies is using TIDAL CURRENTs energy. Extraction of energy from TIDE is practical in places where much energy is focused as big TIDEs and the geographic situation provide an appropriate site for tidal power plant construction. Considering that more than 5000 MW RENEWABLE ENERGY power plants are to be constructed in Iran during the Fifth Development Plan, identifying appropriate sites for this purpose and evaluation of renewable energies in these sites is of high importance. In the present research, the feasibility of energy extraction from TIDAL CURRENTs in this region is investigated considering the geometric characteristics of Qeshm channel and the strong TIDAL CURRENTs in this region. The other issue studied in this research is applying operational methods and not merely scientific methods of energy extraction based on the latest results and guidelines of European Marine Energy Centre and TIDAL CURRENTs modeling. Based on the research results, 1850 W RENEWABLE ENERGY was estimated extractable from TIDAL CURRENT. The extractability of this size of energy has encouraged many governments around the world to extract and use this energy. The result also reveals that merely using the APD criteria which is the basis of judgments in many studies is a flawed and impractical basis.
