PREDICTION OF THE SPATIAL DISTRIBUTION OF NEISHABOUR PLAIN GROUNDWATER ACIDITY USING GEO-STATISTIC TECHNIQUE AND GEOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION SYSTEM

Abstract

 Nowadays, a great number of studies are being carried out in most countries on the quality of GROUNDWATER and on preventing these waters from being polluted. This is while it has been determined that GROUNDWATER quality has spatial and temporal variations. The present study evaluates the interpolation methods to predict the GROUNDWATER ACIDITY of the NEISHABOUR PLAIN, located in Khorasan province, in the 2007-2008. Since classical statistics does not have the capability to assume spatial and temporal distribution, Kriggin's geostatistical method and GS+ software were used for this purpose. To evaluate the interpolation error, validation technique was used, and MBE and mean absolute error (MAE) were taken advantage of for the statistical comparison. Results of the study showed that the MBE and MAE value were 0.02 and 0.18, respectively. This means that the model was quite accurate in estimating the ACIDITY. Also, the Spherical variogrum Model was the best fitting model.
