Title

EFFECTS OF NUTRIENTS ON GROWTH AND ACTIVE SUBSTANCES OF THYME (THYMUS VULGARIS L.)

Pages

  261-274

Abstract

A greenhouse experiment was conducted to evaluate the effects of NITROGEN, PHOSPHOROUS, POTASSIUM and a complete fertilizer (AGRIHANSA) on growth and active substances of seedlings of thyme (Thymus vulgaris L.). The plants were transplanted in pots containing 1/3 soil, 1/3 sand and 1/3 peat (v/v) at 4-6 leaf stage and were kept in a greenhouse at 27±3/17±3°C day/night temperatures. The treatments were using N, P, K, NP, NK, PK, NPK and AGRIHANSA and comparing them to control (without using fertilizers). N, P2O5 and K2O were applied at a concentration of 50 mg kg-1 of pot soil. The results indicated that the highest shoot fresh weight (82.29 g plant-1) and shoot dry weight (22.88 g plant-1) were obtained in NPK treatment. The maximum green herb weight (68.45 g plant-1), drug herb weight (18.48 g plant-1) and drug leaves weight (9.68 g plant-1) were observed on NPK treatment. Application of AGRIHANSA resulted in highest ESSENTIAL OIL percentage of thyme drug leaves (1.77%) and NPK showed the lowest percentage (1.03%). AGRIHANSA showed the highest ESSENTIAL OIL yield (162.74 mg plant-1). The results showed that using AGRIHANSA resulted to highest quantity of THYMOL (69.88%). The maximum CARVACROL (10.95%) was observed on NP treatment.
