Abstract

ORNITHOBACTERIUM RHINOTRACHEALE (ORT) is a recently described species of Bacterium associated with respiratory disease, growth retardation, mortality and decrease egg production. In the present study, a total of 220 tracheal (22 flocks), 90 ovaries and oviducts (IS flocks), and 90 misshapen egg shells (15 flocks) swabs were collected from 22 BROILER BREEDER flocks of 5 companies in GUILAN Province. The ORT infection was diagnosed in tracheal swab samples of seven flocks (31.81% of 22 flocks or 3.18% of 220 sample swabs). None of the ovaries, oviducts and egg shells swabs was positive in this study. A 784 bp fragment of the 16s rRNA gene was amplified using specific primers in the PCR. Out of seven flocks infected with ORT, five flocks were positive in both culture and PCR methods and two were detected only by PCR method. The result showed that PCR is asuitable method for diagnosis of the ORT.
