Abstract: 

Introduction: The computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation of three-dimensional wire-plate Electrostatic precipitator is performed in the present study. Materials and methods: The momentum equation, the electric potential equation and current continuity equation are solved by using ANSYS Fluent. The ion charge density at the corona is calculated iteratively using the Peek formula. The SIMPLE algorithm is used to treat the pressure-velocity coupling. The RNG k-ε model is used to describe turbulence. Results: The airflow keeps stable away from the first corona electrode. The distribution of the electric potential is dependent on the wire-plate distance and the wire-wire distance. The potential and ion charge density increase with the increase of the wire-plate distance. With the increase of wire-wire distance, the maximum electric field strength decreases whereas the maximum ionic charge density increases. The ion charge density near the second corona electrode is relatively small. A small wire-wire distance will make the electric field concentrated around the wires. Conclusion: According to this study, the wire-wire distance and the wire-plate distance have great effect on the distribution of ion charge density and electric field strength.

Abstract: 

Electrostatic separation (induction & contac charging) of minerals (conductors and insultors) was investigated experimentally. The results showed that if a mixture of insulator materials of 0.2 t 0.4 mm size contacted with each other, different materials acquired different charges and when they fall in an electrical or gravitational field, they separate from each other. The charge that different materials acquired was in agreement with other's finding. Separation of coductors was not effective by contact charging but was feasible with induction method. The experiment showed that the time of contact had an appreciable role in separation, but the type of metal had no effective role in separation. Separation of particles less than 0.1 mm size was not effective due to their coagulation. Humidity prevented. Charuing and separating of materials, the process was better in dry condition.

Abstract: 

This paper investigates the optimal configuration for a partially two-layered circular capacitive microplate subjected to AC-DC Electrostatic actuation. To this end, the static deflection due to DC Electrostatic actuation, natural frequency of vibration about static position and primary resonance response due to AC Electrostatic actuation are studied. Primarily, the nonlinear equations of motion are derived through classical laminated plate theory (CLPT). Then, the static position and natural frequency of vibration around static position are obtained using Galerkin approach. The linear mode shapes of non-uniform microplate i. e. a microplate coated as partial by a second layer are used as comparison functions. The forced vibration equations around static position are separated using Galerkin method, and solved by the multiple scale perturbation theory. Firstly, the impact of changes in the second layer radius on the variations of static and dynamic response of the system is studied while its thickness remains constant. Then, the effect of changes in the second layer thickness is studied while its radius remains constant. Finally, the impact of simultaneous change in the radius and thickness of the second layer is studied while its volume remains constant.

Abstract: 

A cylindrical Electrostatic precipitator was built to investigate the voltage-current characteristics of an electro-filter. Corona currents were measured under various applied voltages from 0 to 22 kv. The obtained results were in good agreement with other investigations. Negative corona currents were generally higher than positive ones.By blowing air mixed with cement or plaster powder into the electro-filter, it was observed that these deposited efficiently on the inner wall of the outer electrode and the rate of deposition was increased by the corona current.

Abstract: 

An Electrostatic accelerator tube capable of accelerating proton, deuteron, alpha beam and heavier ions up to an energy of 150keV has been designed and constructed. This tube can be operated with a Cockroft-Walton type high voltage generator. The construction of the tube is important from two different standpoints. First, because it will initiate the use of low energy accelerators for both scientific and industrial development in country and also this step will lead the country toward accelerator design technology, an issue which has been severely overlooked for the past few decades. The present accelerator tube consists of 11 different electrodes forming 3 cylindrical lenses, i.e., extractor lens, focusing lens and cooling lens. An accelerator column which includes 7 collimating lenses follows the cooling lens. The tube can accelerate 2H+ up to an energy of 150 keV. The accelerator column was successfully tested for the high vacuum and the voltage up to 150 kV. A radio frequency type ion source was used to check the performance of the tube. Measurements demonstrated that a beam current close to 850 mA can be readily obtained in the present system.
