Abstract: 

Cabbage is an important component of agriculture in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) for its various food uses. It is important to identify pests that affect its production, which is still insufficient to meet the increasing consumer needs. Furthermore, insect data for tropical agroecosystems, particularly those of DRC are limited, making insect diversity poorly understood. The objective of this study is to assess the diversity and abundance of entomofauna related to cabbage in five different cabbage growing sites: Minova, Sake, Kibumba, Rutshuru and Lac Vert. This was achieved by trapping insects with the sweep net and yellow pantraps during 2021 and 2022. A total of 1109 insects from 9 orders and 48 families were collected. The most abundant pest families were Ciccadellidae (8%), Coreidae (7%), Chysomelidae (5%) and Pentatomidae (4%). The main families of beneficial insects (natural enemies and pollinators) identified were Syrphidae (7%), Carabidae (4%), Coccinellidae (3%) and Apidae (3%). Insect communities found in different locations were similar and diversified. Considering functions played by these different functional groups as ecological indicators, it is important to preserve entomological biodiversity. This is achieved through the rational selection of pest management methods to optimize ecosystem services provided by beneficial insects.

Abstract: 

The present study has been carried out in order to determine the entomofauna of four different agroecosystems from the study area, northwestern Algeria. Regular sampling was done using the Barber pitfall trap and the sweep net in addition to visual observations in the field. Nine (09) taxonomic orders of insects was identified from the four studied environments. It varies from one agroecosystem to another. Coleoptera and Orthoptera were the most represented in terms of both species and numbers. Entomofaunal diversity was more important in un-cultivated fields (diversity index = 4. 15 bits, equitability = 0. 89) than in arable fields (index ranging from 1. 68 to 2. 87 and a equitability between 0. 41 and 0. 72). Limited biodiversity in cultivated areas was the consequence of insect communities’ interactions disturbances caused by agricultural practices in these environments. Therefore, it is important to reduce these disturbances in order to enhance food resources, habitats and overwintering sites for insects. This will ensures sustainable entomological diversity, thereby increasing the role of biological control in pest management systems.

Abstract: 

The study investigated the spatial and seasonal variations in arthropod diversity using different trapping methods within two types of cedar forests (dead and healthy) in Belezma National Park, located in Batna. The field survey was carried out from January 2017 to December 2018, employing three sampling techniques: Barber pots, coloured traps, and suspended traps. A total of 108 species belonging to four classes, 13 orders, and 66 families were recorded. Representing 95.4% of the total species richness, insects were the predominant class, with 46 species. Within this class, Hymenoptera had the highest incidence (46.01%), followed by Diptera (23.6%). The Shannon-Weaver index exceeded 3 across stations, seasons, and sampling methods, indicating high diversity. Additionally, Equitability values surpassed 70% across all observations. PERMANOVA analysis revealed significant differences in composition between the different stations, seasons, and sampling methods. This research highlighted several key factors influencing arthropod diversity, including the condition of the habitat (dead vs. healthy cedar forests), seasonal variations, and the effectiveness of various sampling techniques.

Abstract: 

This study aims to explore and improve the understanding of the biodiversity of beetles in the Maamora forest, one of the largest cork oak forests in the world. A survey was carried out over two consecutive years (2021 and 2022), using both active and passive traps. A total of 8247 individuals were collected, representing 256 species, belonging to 42 families of Coleoptera order. Most of the beetle species belonged to the families Tenebrionidae (27 species), Carabidae (27 species) and Curculionidae (24 species). Out of the 256 species identified, 216 have been included in this document. We only selected species of high heritage value; 53 were saproxylic, including 6 rare species; 29 were endemic, and 26 species were identified as new records for the Moroccan entomofauna. These results provide the first checklist of beetle fauna in the Maamora forest, which will contribute new information on the distribution of beetles in the cork oak forests of Morocco.
