Abstract: 

Serverless computing is one of the concepts that has become a trend these days. Serverless computing facilitates the deployment of software on the cloud, fog, edge, and IoT infrastructures. Serverless computing helps developers implement their codebase without worrying about server management hassles. These are the reasons why the concept of serverless computing is presented in the cloud, the edge, the fog, and the Internet of things. Research on serverless computing, on the other hand, requires extensive hardware equipments. It can also be time consuming. Simulation is needed to overcome these problems. MFS is a simulator based on the Apache Open Whisk architecture that seeks to facilitate the evaluation process of serverless computing researches. Compared to similar researches, this simulator supports more features including containers, heterogeneous processing resources (e. g., CPU, GPU, and TPU), different runtimes, and Apache OpenWhisk architecture. It also calculates and reports metrics such as average response time, utilization of different computing resources, rejection ratio, missed ratio, number of containers used, and costs. The mentioned metrics can be calculated in overall and individually for each physical machine. The status of all functions is also reported at the end of the simulation (e. g., completed, missed, and rejected).

Abstract: 

A simple method has been developed for the preconcentration of Lead (II) based on the adsorption of its 1- (2-Pyridyl Azo) 2-Naphtol (PAN) complex on aOctadecyl bonded silica cartridges. The influence of acidity, eluting agents, stability of the column, sample volume and interfering ions has been investigated in detail. The adsorbed complex could be eluted using environmentally benign HNO34M and the concentration of Lead (II) was determined flame atomic absorption spectrometry. A detection limit of 50 mgL-1 could be achieved and the developed procedure was successfully applied for the determination of Lead (II) in tap water and waste water samples.

Abstract:

THE EFFECT OF VARIOUS PARAMETERS, SUCH AS PH, TYPE AND CONCENTRATION OF ACID, EFFECT OF THE ADSORBENT AMOUNT AND EFFECT OF ULTRA SONICATION TIME WERE OPTIMIZED. AS A RESULT, IT IS HOPED TO USE THE METHOD FOR EXTRACTION AND PRECONCENTRATION OF METAL IONS IN REAL SAMPLES USED EFFECTIVELY. THE PROPOSED METHOD PERMITTED A LARGE ENRICHMENT FACTOR (ABOUT 200). THE RELATIVE STANDARD DEVIATION OF THE METHOD WAS ±1.94 % (FOR TEN REPLICATE DETERMINATIONS OF 2.0 MG ML-1 OF NI (II) AND THE LIMIT OF DETECTION WAS 1.0 MG ML-1. THE RESULTS SHOWED THAT CO3O4 @CLAY@AAAPTS ADSORBENT COULD BE EMPLOYED AS AN EFFECTIVE MATERIAL FOR PRECONCENTRATION AND THEIR DETERMINATION OF NI FROM AQUEOUS SOLUTIONS.

OPTIMUM PH VALUE FOR SORPTION OF THE METAL ION WAS 4.2 THE SORPTION CAPACITY OF THE FUNCTIONALIZED POLYMER IS 64 MG/G IN 20ºC. LESS THAN 5 MIN AND 150 RPM SHAKING WAS REQUIRED FOR 99% SORPTION [4]. THE SYNTHESIZED POLYMER CAN BE REUSED FOR SEVERAL CYCLES OF SORPTION DESORPTION WITHOUT ANY SIGNIFICANT CHANGE IN SORPTION CAPACITY. THE MONITORING OF THE LEVELS OF HEAVY METAL IONS IN ENVIRONMENTAL SAMPLES IS AN IMPORTANT PART OF ANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY DUE TO THEIR POSITIVE OR NEGATIVE INFLUENCES ON THE HUMAN BODY [1]. ATOMIC ABSORPTION SPECTROMETER (AAS) IS GENERALLY MAIN INSTRUMENT OF ANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY LABORATORIES FOR THE DETERMINATION OF TRACES HEAVY METAL IONS, DUE TO ITS RELATIVELY LOW COST. HOWEVER THE MAIN TWO PROBLEMS FOR THE DETERMINATION OF HEAVY METAL IONS BY AAS ARE LOW LEVELS OF METAL IONS AND INTERFERIC INFLUENCES OF MAIN COMPONENTS OF SAMPLES.THEREFORE, IT IS USUALLY NECESSARY TO CARRY OUT A PRECONCENTRATION/OR SEPARATION STEP PRIOR TO THE ANALYSIS. COPRECIPITATION IS ONE OF THE EFFICIENT SEPARATION/PRECONCENTRATION TECHNIQUES FOR TRACES OF HEAVY METAL IONS. THE COPRECIPITATION TECHNIQUE HAS SOME ADVANTAGES: SIMPLE, FAST METHOD AND SEVERAL ANALYTE IONS CAN BE PRECONCENTRATED AND SEPARATED FROM THE MATRIX SIMULTANEOUSLY.IN THE PRESENT WORK, WE DEVELOPED A CARRIER ELEMENT-FREE COPRECIPITATION [2], BY USING AN ORGANIC COPRECIPITANT, 2- [4- (N, N-DIMETHYL) OHENYL] 5 (4H) -OXAZOLONE FOR SEPARATION AND PRECONCENTRATION OF MANGANESE, NICKEL AND COBALT IONS. IN OUR STUDY, WE HAVE PERFORMED AN INSOLUBLE FORM (IN WATER) OF ORGANIC COMPOUND, USED AS A COPRECIPITATING AGENT, AND ADSORBED THE HEAVY METALS ON THE PRECIPITATE. IT IS A GREAT ADVANTAGE DUE TO THERE IS NO CONTAMINATION AND INTERFERENCE RISK FOR ANALYTES FROM A CARRIER ELEMENT. THE INFLUENCES OF ANALYTICAL PARAMETERS SUCH AS AMOUNT OF COPRECIPITANT, SAMPLE VOLUME, DIVERSE IONS, ETC. WERE INVESTIGATED.UNDER OPTIMIZED CONDITIONS, CALIBRATION CURVES WERE CONSTRUCTED FOR DETERMINATION OF THE ANALYTE IONS. LINEARITY FOR THE ANALYTE IONS IN THE ORIGINAL SOLUTION (35 ML) WERE MAINTAINED BETWEEN 0.005 AND 1.0 MG ML-1 FOR MANGANESE, 0.005 AND 1.5 MG ML-1 FOR NICKEL AND 0.01-2.0ΜG ML-1 FOR COBALT. THE DETECTION LIMITS OF THE METHOD BASED ON 3SB/M (N=7) FOR MANGANESE, NICKEL AND COBALT IONS WERE 1.5, 1.8 AND 3.2 NG ML-1 IN THE ORIGINAL SOLUTION, RESPECTIVELY.SEVEN REPLICATE DETERMINATIONS OF A MIXTURE OF 0.2 MG ML-1 MANGANESE, NICKEL AND COBALT IONS IN THE ORIGINAL SOLUTION GAVE RELATIVE STANDARD DEVIATIONS OF 2.1%, 1.7 AND 2.0%, RESPECTIVELY.FINALLY, THE DEVELOPED METHOD HAS BEEN SUCCESSFULLY APPLIED FOR THE DETERMINATION OF THE ANALYTE IONS IN THE REAL WATER SAMPLES.

Abstract: 

Function-as-a-Service (FaaS) allows to directly submit function code to a cloud provider without the burden of managing infrastructure resources. Each cloud provider establishes execution time limits to their FaaS offerings, which impose the risk of spending computation time without achieving partial results. In this work, a framework that enables limitless execution time in FaaS, with little to no modifications to the user-provided function code, is presented. After a thorough literature and theoretical framework review, Apache OpenWhisk Actions and the DMCTP checkpoint-and-restore (CR) tool were selected. With these, dependent successive serverless same-function invocations that exploit the persistence of partial results were implemented. The solution was submitted to the FaaSDom benchmark and time metrics were collected. Additionally, the solution was characterized in terms of the Serverless Trilemma. The resultant system, even at this proof-of-concept state, offers a lot of value to companies that rely heavily on serverless architecture.

Abstract: 

The main sources of human exposure to trace metals for non-occupationally exposed individuals are inhalation and ingestion. Because the absorption rates of the metals by inhalation are significantly higher (up to 50-60%) than those by ingestion (between 3% and 10%), determination of trace metals in ambient air samples is of special interest. The main purpose of this study was to determine Fe, Zn and Cu in ambient air by combining pre-concentration methods and flame atomic absorption spectrophotometer (FAAS). In the pre-concentration step, adsorption reagents including 4- (2-pyridyl-azo) Resorcinol (PAR) -loaded XAD-7, thioureasulphonamide polymeric resin and cupferron-activated carbon were used sequentially. Under the optimum conditions, seasonal distributions of Fe, Zn and Cu concentrations in ambient air of Elazig City, Turkey, were determined. Concentrations of Fe, Zn and Cu were found to be in the ranges of 154-416, 101-323 and 12-75 ng/m3, respectively. High Zn levels determined in March and April can be attributed to the burning of coal at the beginning of spring.
