There are a number of requirements by which animals should be managed so that the best performance is achieved in a way acceptable to those responsible for the care of the animals and to the community generally. These requirements are the keys to good management and may be used to test the management of a poultry enterprise in relation to the standard of its management. These requirements are also called Principles. The importance of each Principle changes with the situation and thus the emphasis placed on each may alter from place to place and from time to time. This means that, while the Principles do not change the degree of emphasis and method of application may change. Every facet of the poultry operation should be tested against the relevant principles.

In this study, performances of the Iranian broiler husbandry industry and its growth potential have been calculated applying Total Factor Productivity (TFP) Tornqvist-Theil index to the data collected by the Iranian Statistical Center in 1990, 1994, 1995 and 2001. The results show that TFP index has been improved from 85.5 percent to 99.1 & 108.6 percent in 1994 and 1995 respectively. But its performance has been declined in 2001 by 13 percent due to implementing “Exchange Rate Unification” policy in 1990. In other words, sudden elimination of indirect subsidies caused technical efficiency of industry to decline. In addition, local comparison of chicken meat producing firms shows that difference between low and high performance provinces has been increased from 12 percent in 1994 to 35 percent in 2001. It implies that non symmetric industry growth has been carried out in this period and there is deep gap between average production costs of chicken meat production in different Iran provinces.

Exchange rate is one of the important factors which affect the prices of imported inputs like poultry husbandry inputs prices. This study develops a system of empirical models that analysis the exchange rate and the LOP effects on poultry husbandry inputs prices (maze, soybeans, barley and fish powder). To achieve the aims of study, we used vector autoregressive (VAR) model in seemingly unrelated regression (SUR) framework over the period 1381: m1– 1391m12. Dichey-Fuller unit root test suggested that all of the variables support the presence of unit root but the presence unit roots can be rejected in the first difference model. The results revealed that, in general, real exchange rate only affects the prices of soybeans and fish powder. 1% depreciation of the domestic money raises the prices of soybean and fish powder by 8% and 23% respectively, at the same month. Also, results imply no exchange rate pass-through and invalidity of the LOP. According to the results, preventing from intensive increase in exchange rate and its volatility are very important steps on stability of poultry husbandry subsector’ s input prices.

Davān is an old village north of the city of Kāzerūn in Fārs province, which is better known than the other villages in the area because it is the birth-place of Allāmeh-ye Davānī, a 9th /15th century Islamic theologian who is the author of several scholarly works. The inhabitants of Davān -- dwindling in number in recent years -- have long been goat and sheep herders. They live in close proximity to the Qashqai nomads, but they speak an Iranian dialect which is rich in words that define every type of goat and sheep and what they produce in the way of meat, milk and wool. The present paper is a monograph that the author has prepared after a substantial amount of field work on the vocational practices of the people of Davān, especially in regard to the animals they breed. The author systematically expounds these terms, transcribes their local pronunciation and gives also their equivalents in standard Persian, wherever there are such equivalents. For instance bal javūr is a goat with large ears and a reddish brown body. Or tālek is just a grey kid.

Abstracthe aim of this research is to identify the indigenous knowledge of camel husbandry in the territory of Kalkuyee nomads in Masileh plain of Qom province, who have a long history of camel husbandry in this region. The way of obtaining the data is in the field with the continuous presence of the tribes of the Kalkuyee tribe in the form of interview (question and answer), observation, filming and photography during three years. Also, in addition to individual interviews with native camel herders and nomadic experts, group interviews were also used in order to collect data and gain knowledge about the local knowledge of camel herders. The information has been classified based on convergence and divergence. The findings include indigenous knowledge related to naming, marking, the position of camels, characteristics of good camels, and reproduction among nomads of Kalkuyee tribe. The results of the research in the territory of Kalkuyee nomads showed that they have local knowledge and extensive work experience in camel husbandry. From the local knowledge of camel herders, we come to the conclusion that camel herding has long been a traditional and cultural activity with specific regional characteristics, and with camel herding and traditional life,

Agriculture sector, as one of the bases for regional development, can be effective in reducing regional threat and in balance and improvement of development indicators in the areas. Main question of this research is Identification of capabilities in agriculture sector in Abarkouh city and providing guidelines for the improvement of this industry. Type of research is applied-developmental and its method is librarian and survey. With using SWOT model which is an important strategic planning model, strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of agriculture livestock in this area were determined and then we used QSPM technique for prioritization and classification of strategies. Based on results, organization of product centers and rural regions, use of young man powers in the sector, giving the research affairs to private sector and improvement in participation is most important ways for development of agriculture and animal husbandry in the region.

Dairy husbandry projects are important activities in the field of agriculture and information on profitability of these projects can help decision makers in both private and public sectors. In this study financial and economic indicators of the profitability of these projects are examined.Some of the projects in Tehran province as sample units were selected and the estimated financial and economic indicators show that the projects are justifiable.Sensitivity analysis indicates that the policies related to stability of incomes are more important compared with stability of inputs prices. The results also showed that the difference between the financial profitability and economic profitability indicates that government assistance to the producers is very important policy and continuation of this policy is recommended.

Indigenous knowledge refers to the collective beliefs, values, tools, methods, and experiences of an ethnic group shaped by their interaction with the environment over time. The province of Gilan is a historic center of livestock husbandry in Iran, and its knowledge plays an important role in optimizing the use of natural ecosystems. The information for this survey was collected using ethnographic methods, including interviews and participant observation. The results show that livestock farmers have gained valuable experience in the different aspects of herd management, nutrition and housing of the animals. By carefully choosing grazing patterns, following seasonal grazing practices and paying attention to the composition and segregation of the herd, they have demonstrated remarkable competence in managing their ecosystems in a sustainable manner. Indigenous knowledge of animal nutrition includes identification of the predominant fodder plant including Poaceae and Leguminosae, the nutritional needs of pregnant and newborn animals, use of salt licks, crop residues and winter storage of feed. Moreover, knowledge of livestock housing is essential to optimizing the use of resources. Indigenous communities have gained a deep understanding of their country's strengths and weaknesses through constant interaction with nature and a systematic approach to planning and organization ensures its survival.
