Abstract:

Objectives IMPRESSION accuracy is the main determinant of the fit, form and function of prosthetic restorations. Polyvinyl siloxane (PVS) is the material of choice in most clinical situations. The purpose of this paper is to provide an up-to-date review of scientific articles which discuss the dimensional accuracy of PVS IMPRESSION material using various IMPRESSION techniques, tray types and spacers. Besides, the procedure, advantages and disadvantages of commonly used IMPRESSION techniques, technique modifications and innovations are also reviewed. Method An electronic search of scientific papers from 1990 to 2018 was carried out using MEDLINE and Google Scholar databases using the search terms “ accuracy and polyvinyl siloxane and IMPRESSION technique” and “ accuracy and addition silicone and IMPRESSION technique” . Results Searching the key words yielded a total of 312 articles. By application of inclusion and exclusion criteria, the obtained results were further reduced to 35 citations. Conclusion IMPRESSION technique is a critical variable in the accuracy of PVS IMPRESSIONs. Dual-phase 2-step technique with 1 to 2 mm space for the light body is proven to be highly accurate and is still considered as the standard technique. The use of 2-step technique without providing a space for the wash material is rejected by the literature. Triple-phase 2step techniques including “ matrix IMPRESSION system” have also functioned well and even superior to traditional dualphase 2-step technique. Papers suggest that custom trays do not significantly improve the accuracy of IMPRESSIONs and rigid stock trays are suitable alternatives.

Abstract:

Introduction: The Fabrication of dental prostheses for patients with Microstomia has been a problem for dentists for a long time. Microstomia often seen in patients who suffer from Scleroderma, burns, surgical removal of malignant lesions or congenital deformities. Patients Profile: This article describes a patient whose face was burned by hot water and it causes Microstomia. Partial removable prosthesis upper and lower by sectional Impertion technique was made for this patient. Initially, an IMPRESSION of the mouth with conventional silicon, pour thin IMPRESSION with dental Placter and at the end diagnostic cast was made, two sectional trays separately with acryl Cold cure, then was made the first final IMPRESSION with silicon rubber based. This IMPRESSION Poured and separate the cast from the IMPRESSION when the stone has set then second final IMPRESSION was made, position the Cast made from the first IMPRESSION in this IMPRESSION, pour IMPRESSION containing the Cast in dental Stone. Separate the cost from the IMPRESSION after the stone has set. The Completed cast was prepared. Conclusion: If the patient will be comfort with this prosthesis we achieve to our aim.

Abstract:

Background & Aim: The reproduction of superstructures that exhibits the best passive fit when connected to multiple abutments is one of the major objectives in making implant supported prosthesis. Taking accurate IMPRESSION is the most important requirement in order to ensure passive fit. The aim of this study was to review selected databases in search of journal articles describing the best implant IMPRESSION techniques or their modifications that can increase the accuracy of the IMPRESSION and finally a passive supra-structure reproduction. Materials & Methods: Language restriction was applied in order to select articles in English language only. Based on our strategy, search started from Cochrane Oral Health Group’s Trials Register, followed by searching PubMed and Medline databases. Hand searching was conducted for several dental journals. We checked the bibliographies of relevant clinical trials and review articles in search of studies that may not have been included in those hand searched journals. Several implant manufacturers’ product catalogues as well as their instruction manuals were searched for relevant information. Results: A total of 92 articles were identified. Twelve of them were case-report articles that presented modified techniques. Another 50 presented detailed statistical comparison and were suitable for inclusion in this review. No RCT and Meta analysis papers were identified. Conclusion: Based on the reviewed articles it can be suggested that: Direct or open tray technique is more accurate procedure than indirect or close tray technique for duplicating oral conditions in the master cast. Polyether and polyvinylesiloxane (PVS) IMPRESSION materials are more suitable for taking IMPRESSION of dental implants. In case of multiple implants, splinted technique showed no advantages over non splinted techniques.

Abstract:

Introduction: Various symptoms have been attributed to tooth eruption. Further, parents use different strategies to reduce or eliminate these symptoms. This study was aimed to evaluate parental information about eruption of primary teeth in Isfahan, Iran. Materials & Methods: This descriptive, cross-sectional survey was conducted on 100 parents having sixmonth-to three-year-old children referring to the dental clinics or offices in Isfahan. A questionnaire with validated face and content validity was designed to collect data. It included questions about demographic characteristics, eruption time and the first erupted tooth, symptoms of eruption, and control of symptoms. Data were analyzed by frequency distribution, relative frequency, descriptive indices, and chi-square test via SPSS 22. 0. p value < 0. 05 was considered to be statistically significant. Results: The most frequent symptoms parents agreed with included high tendency to bite and chew, high saliva flow, and gingival inflammation, respectively. Fever was the most frequent symptom the majority of parents disagreed with. The most frequent methods used by the parents included hugging the child and amusing the child. The most frequent disagreement was reported for the use of sleeping drugs. No significant correlation between parental information about tooth eruption and economic status, parental education, parental age, and number of children was found. (p value < 0. 05) The mean score of parental information was 2. 37 ± 0. 97 and degree of response was 96%. Conclusion: Parents’ knowledge about tooth eruption was moderate and acceptable awareness on symptoms of tooth eruption and methods of decreasing the symptoms was found.

Abstract:

Background and Aim: In order to improve the retention and stability of the mandibular removable prosthesis with distal extension, it is usually required to make a secondary IMPRESSION (the altered cast IMPRESSION). This study was designed to clinically evaluate the conventional method of altered cast technique with modified altered cast technique. Materials and Methods: This prospective experimental study was conducted with 15 patients. They were treated with two methods of conventional and modified altered cast techniques. Following an oral examination, a questionnaire was used to collect clinical information on the occurrence of ulceration on the ridge, denture border areas, buccal shelf and retromolar pad areas, as well as the sufficiency of denture base extension. Patients were followed up 24 hours and one week after using the partial dentures. In conventional altered cast IMPRESSION technique, it is required to dissect the casts and form the IMPRESSION boxing in order to make sure that the master cast is properly registering the distal extension ridge anatomical features. Separation of the edentulous portion from the master cast is eliminated in the modified altered cast IMPRESSION technique. This makes it more efficient, convenient for patient and less time consuming procedure. The X2 and fisher’s exact tests were used to detect significant levels. Results: The percent of ulceration on the ridge, denture border areas, and buccal shelf as well as the retromolar pad areas were lower in modified altered cast IMPRESSION technique compared with the conventional altered cast IMPRESSION method. The percentage of the denture base extension in the modified altered cast IMPRESSION technique was better than the conventional altered cast IMPRESSION method. The extension of denture base in distolingual areas of modified altered cast IMPRESSION technique was the same as the conventional altered cast technique. The difference between the two procedures was not statistically significant. Conclusion: The modified alerted cast technique can result in saving time, increasing the patient’s satisfaction and comfort, which makes it the recommendable procedure for making removable partial dentures with distal extensions.
