Abstract:

Background: To investigate the effects of different radiotherapy regimens on the prognosis of patients with brain metastases. Materials and Methods: Patients with brain metastases undergoing radiotherapy from January 2016 to December 2020 were retrospectively analyzed. The patients were divided into a whole-brain radiotherapy (WBRT) group, stereotactic ablative radiotherapy (SABR) group, and WBRT+SABR group, and overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) were analyzed. Results: Forty patients were candidates for the analysis, with a median age of 57. 5 years and a median follow-up time of 27. 4 months. The median OS and PFS were 35. 7 and 13. 5 months, respectively, and the median radiotherapy dose was 41. 7 Gy. The median OS times for patients who received WBRT (n = 12), SABR (n = 21), and WBRT+SABR (n = 7) were 41. 8, 70. 6, and 56. 8 months, respectively (p = 0. 7). The median PFS times were 10. 2 months, 34. 3 months, and 25. 9 months, respectively (p = 0. 322). Subgroup analysis indicated that the OS times were 25. 4 months after WBRT (n = 7), 79. 1 months after SABR (n = 11), and 65. 9 months after WBRT+SABR (n = 5) among patients with brain metastases from lung cancer (p = 0. 028). The patients had PFS times of 7. 1, 33. 4, and 29. 1 months after irradiation with WBRT, SABR, and combination therapy, respectively (p = 0. 009). Conclusion: The three different radiotherapy regimens had no significant effects on the prognosis of patients with brain metastases. SBAR was superior to WBRT and WBRT+SABR with respect to the prognosis of patients with brain metastases from lung cancer. The sample size of this retrospective study was small, therefore, larger, prospective studies are needed.

Abstract:

Background: The aim of the study was to compare the dose differences between 3Dprinted bolus, commercial bolus (wax), thermoplastic mask bolus and bolus-free head phantoms simulating nose radiotherapy. Materials and Methods: We used 3D printing technology to make a 3D-printed bolus. To evaluate the clinical feasibility, intensitymodulated radiation therapy (IMRT) plans were created for head phantoms that were 3D-printed bolus, commercial bolus (wax), thermoplastic mask bolus or bolus-free. Dosimetry differences were compared in simulating nose radiotherapy. Results: For the PTV of all the plans, 3D-printed bolus, commercial bolus (wax) and thermoplastic masks bolus had lower Dmax and D1% than the plan without the bolus, for Dmean and D95%, the results were the opposite. For V90%, V95%, V100% and HI, the plan with the 3D-printed bolus was better than the others, and the plan without the bolus was the worst. Conclusions: The dosimetric differences of 3D-printed bolus, commercial bolus (wax), thermoplastic mask bolus and bolus-free were compared in head phantoms simulating nose radiotherapy. The 3D-printed bolus was good for fit, had a high level of comfort and repeatability, and also had better dose parameters in IMRT plans.

Abstract:

Background: This study focuses on analyzing the effects of three-dimensional conformal radiotherapy (3DCRT) and image-guided radiotherapy (IGRT) on the safety and prognosis of individuals with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Materials and Methods: Eighty cases of HCC individuals admitted between January 2023 and December 2023 were studied; the control group received IGRT intervention with 34 cases; the research group received 3DCRT intervention with 46 cases. The safety (incidence of grade 1, 2, and 3 hepatic toxic side effects), prognosis, range of lower extremity computed tomography angiography-planned target volume (CTV-PTV) externally, and efficacy of the treatment were comparatively analyzed. Results: The data manifested that the incidence of grade 1 toxicity in the research group exceeded that in the control group, but the incidence of grade 3 toxicity in the research group was lower, and the 1-year and 2-year survival rates in the research group were greater. The median survival time in the research group was longer than that in the control group. The range of CTV-PTV exposure in the left and right, head and foot, anterior and posterior aspects was lower than that in the control group. In addition, the CR+PR rate was significantly higher in the research group. Conclusion: These outcomes revealed that IGRT is more suitable for HCC patients than 3DCRT, which not only has a certain degree of safety, but also can help to significantly improve the prognosis.
