Abstract:

These symbols the poet perpetuates in his poem through his innovative power or such symbols include his primary desire i.e. extracted from language, literature and history and give special meaning and soul to them.Al-Sayyab is among contemporary poets who for the sake of bring the poetic structure out of fogeyish bond, uses personal symbolisms in his poems.Of course, in the past Arabic literature, symbolisms like moon, sword - arc - cross were employed. But al-Sayyab with due attention to his poetic needs in the contemporary setup created personal symbolisms like death and resurrection, Jeikur, Boawib and Wafighe. The veil is yet another technique of symbolism that in fact has taken out from an idiom from theater and exhibition. In the poems of al-Sayyab four principle veils are: Ayyoob, Tammuz, Christ and Sisyphus.

Abstract:

Syntactic deviation is one of the techniques employed to enhance a literary text, because it derives from the poet’ s intentional non-compliance with morphological or syntactic rules to achieve certain goals. Using this technique leads to eloquence of language so that it directs the reader’ s attention to the text. Contemporary poets attempt to use this technique in their poetry to inspire the reader with new feelings and, disturbing the usual order of objects, they try to represent them in a brand new way. In this way, the modern Iraqi poet, Badr Shakir al-Sayyab— to whose literary genius contemporary Arabic poetry owes much— has devoted himself to the development of his poetic language and has evoked the reader’ s contemplation on his poetry. In some cases, he offers a different language by breaking the norms and moving away from the prevailing principles of poetry. Under the influence of Western culture and literature, he had a critical look at the heritage of Arabic poetry and made a significant contribution to the development of Arabic poetic language. This research tries to examine the syntactic and rhetorical deviations of Sayab’ s poems in a descriptive-analytical manner in order to elicit his techniques of defamiliarization and make the reader focus on the poet’ s main intention and the hidden layers of his work. The results of the research demonstrate that hyperbaton, omission of letters and the use of new ones, conjunction and separation of words, and using far-fetched words are the most frequent examples of syntactic and rhetorical deviations in Sayyab’ s poetry. Therefore, using such techniques, Sayyab gives his poetry a distinctive character so that the reader’ s difficulty understanding his new form of expression and their sensual perception time are increased. The research also argues that the syntactic and rhetorical deviation is one of the aesthetic and stylistic qualities of all the free-verse poems of Sayyab.

Abstract:

Al-Sayyab and Shamlou are two of the most prominent contemporary poets who, in spite of their love poems, tried to address the revolutionary function of women in their literary work. By promoting the woman's personality in this respect, they have detached her lover stereotypical face and have highlighted their revolutionary share and their ability to fight for liberation alongside men. Therefore, this research attempts to study the position of women in poetry of the two poets, and depicts their presence along with the changes that have been made in their personality. This is why categories such as struggle for liberation, accompaniment of solving human problems, and the escape of traditions are referred to as the most important constituents of women presence in the literary work provided by these poems. In Badr Shakir Al-ssayab’s poem, except for their traditional role, women are the symbol of the vanished homeland and sometimes represent the symbol of return to oneself. However, this linear trend in presenting women reflects well in the personality of those such as “Hafsa al-omari” and “Jamilah Bouhired” and reaches perfection. Al-Sayyab seeks to depict his revolutionary function in defending human freedom by matching women's personality with “Ishtar” and giving them Christ’s personality. On the other hand, in Shamlou's poems, women play an independent role in the social struggle. “Roxana” and “Aida” are models of revolutionary women in such poems. It seems as if the poet is looking for his soul-mate so as to enter the battle with her. The results show that the occurred metamorphosis, expect for the two poet's intellectual maturity, is influenced by the evolutionary process of Arab and Persian societies, modernization process, and initiation of humanity in contemporary thought and poem.

Abstract:

Several attitudes have been always purposed about death in human community. Some people have disliked it while some others typically accepted it. However, what is noticeable is the relation of such views with subject of life. Human often escapes from death and sometime he may tend to it. One of the main motives for acceptance of death is resumption of life. Adoption of such principle that is deeply related to social issues has left widely reflection in Arabic and Persian contemporary verse itself. Verses of “Badr Shakir Al Sayyab” and “Nima Yushij” are some of literary achievements in our time in which manifestation of such concepts may be remarkably seen. They never tolerate life along with abasement and they praise a kind of death which leads to continuity of life while representing a new image of death that will be discussed in this exploration as “Reviving Death”.

Abstract:

Badr Shaker-al-Sayyab is a pioneer of contemporary Arabic poetry and one of the first people who could build a novel trend in contemporary poetry by using their new experiences. He could open a way for new Arabic poetry which represents the modern life in its form and meaning. He created a set of symbols, which is a sign of his artistic talent and innovation. He used these symbols to explain contemporary senses and difficulties that people suffer from. Mask is a kind of symbol. It is considered as one the most important poetical techniques and most distinguished tools which poets rely on in their poetries because each symbol of the mask symbols has a significant strength in including a variety of meanings. Badr Shaker-al-Sayyab is a skilful poet in using this technique and summoning religious and historical characters in his poems. Messiah and Job (peace is upon them) and sandbad are three of characters which Sayyab has applied as mask in his poems.

Abstract:

Sometimes authors and poets share common points in their way of thinking and acting due to the linguistic, religious, geographical and other similarities, and sometimes only their works reveals these common points. Hossein Monzavi and Badr Shaker al-Sayyab might be considered in the second group. Although these two poets cannot be generally regarded as followers of Romanticism, many of the poetic images in their works have been created in the romantic atmosphere. Images which, on the one hand, restrain the poet’ s internal emotions and mental states, and on the other hand, play a significant role in conveying the poet’ s emotions. Al-Syyab, due to his stay in Iran, has become familiar with Nima and Nima's poetry and Monzavi, that is, undoubtedly had been partially influenced by Nima. In this paper, after a brief reference to the poets’ life and discussion about the concept of image and the characteristics of romantic image, some of the poetic images in their poetry has been investigated in the three categories of transformation in nature and objects, shadow likeness, and the impact of individuality on fighting.
