Abstract:

Lor tribe is one of the perennial and full-blooded tribes of Iran who are the settlers of expanded areas from west to the extreme southern plains of Zagross Mountains range. The ancient tribes such as Kases, Elamites, and Aryans lived in this territory. Lorestan was occupied by Aryans. From the fourth century Hejira, when the word "Lor" appeared in the historical texts by historians and in geographical texts by geographers for the first time, there were various and sometimes contradicting viewpoints over the racial origin of these two tribes. Among the historians' and geographers' knowing Lor tribe as Kurds prevailed. Although we cannot deny the racial and cultural unity of Lors and Kurds as both are Iranians and a great number of their population are the survivors of Iran's ancient settlers, despite the united origin and frequent common elements, these two tribes have had an independent identity during the history, particularly from the Islamic era forward and were segregated as two main separate groups. Regarding the question "Is the Lor race a branch of the Kurd race" the attempt is made in this article to evaluate and examine the historic data through descriptive and analytic approaches by referring to library sources.

Abstract:

Cardiovascular diseases are the major causes of death in Iran. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of conventional risk factors for coronary artery disease in Lor migrating tribes in southern part of Iran. Two hundred six persons of Lor migrating tribes in Mamasani, southern Iran (age range, 21 – 80 years) were randomly enrolled in the study. Their serum total cholesterol, triglyceride, high- density lipoprotein, low- density lipoprotein, and fasting blood sugar were determined. Of the participants, 79.9% were smokers. The prevalence of hypertension was 37.4% (mostly grade 1), 3.6% had diabetes mellitus, and 14.7% had impaired fasting glucose. A cholesterol level of more than 240 mg/dL was found in 7.1% of the participants, 27.8% had a lowdensity lipoprotein level of more than 130 mg/dL, 38.9% had a high- density lipoprotein level of less than 40 mg/dL, and 25.2% had a triglyceride level of more than 200 mg/dL. Body mass index greater than 25 was found in 34.8% of the participants, and 57.1% had intermediate and high risk for coronary events. The prevalence of conventional risk factors for coronary artery disease in Lor migrating tribes in comparison with Tehran urban population was very high.

Abstract:

The purpose of this study is to measure and compare the degree of adherence to the mother tongue between the three ethnicities of Turks, Kurds and Lors, and to identify the factors that explain the differences in the degree of adherence of different ethnic groups to the mother tongue. For this purpose, a questionnaire was distributed among a sample population of 300 people, equal to 100 students of Turkish, Kurdish and Lori who were studying at Tarbiat Modares University. These indicators were used among the three ethnicities of Turks, Kurds and Lors. The results show that the level of adherence and attitude of the Lor people towards their mother tongue is significantly different from that of the two ethnic groups, Kurds and Turks. Although the Lors have less adherence to their mother tongue than the Turks and Kurds, but their tendency towards ethnic identity has been as great as theirs. Therefore, it can be concluded that the degree of adherence to the mother tongue is influenced by the amount of objective opportunities that a language provides for its speakers in order to communicate more and improve the economic and social situation, rather than being influenced by mental factors such as ethnic identity. Both Kurdish and Turkish, as languages belonging to foreign language communities, provide more opportunities for their speakers than Lori, which is limited to the borders of Iran; As a result, speakers have a more positive attitude towards these languages and a greater degree of adherence.

Abstract:

Background: The awareness of the risk factors of atherosclerosis and attempts to correct and control them can effectively reduce the risk of complications. Objectives: This study was performed to evaluate the risk factors for routine atherosclerosis in patients with symptoms of heart disease in the Arab race, compared to those of Lor patients. Methods: This descriptive-analytical study was conducted on 200 patients with symptoms of heart disease. A food frequency questionnaire was used for data collection. Results: Out of 200 patients, 101 (51. 5%) and 99 (48. 5%) participants were Lor and Arab, respectively. Significant differences were observed between the two races for cholesterol and fasting blood sugar levels (P < 0. 05). Additionally, no significant difference was observed between different quarters of following dietary patterns and lipid-glucose factors (P > 0. 05). Conclusions: Risk factors for cardiovascular diseases, such as atherosclerosis, are multifactorial. Various factors can effectively affect the prevalence of this disease in each region, which necessitates the identification of risk factors to take steps to correct risk factors and improve the quality of patients’,life.

Abstract:

Background: Ferropenia and consequent iron deficiency anemia (IDA), b-thalassemia, and glucose 6- phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency are three main common hematologic problems in Iran. This study was conducted on the prevalence of these problems in Lor migrating nomads ethnic group in southern Iran. Methods: From June to October 2006, the blood samples of 79 Lor migrating nomadic children including 53 (67.1%) male and 26 (32.9%) female were checked for iron indices and G6PD deficiency. The family history of favism, thalassemiaand, signs and symptoms in relation to anemia of participants were evaluated. RBC count, different types of Hb, Hct, MCV, MCH, MCHC, RDW, SI, TIBC and SF were determined immediately after blood sampling. Results: Fourteen (17.7%) children had SF<12 ng/mL while the prevalence of this low serum ferritin was higher in females than males (19.2% vs. 17%). The low hemoglobin (Hb) level had statistical correlation with the low serum ferritin level. Among all participants, the prevalence of G6PD deficiency was 10.1%, and all of them were male children. The prevalence of b-thalassemia was 2.5% and all were male. The prevalence of IDA was 17.7%.Conclusion: Although IDA figure is less than those reported in other developing countries (25-35%); but it shows that Lor tribes in southern Iran are still behind the health status of developed countries (5-8%). Even the prevalence of b-thalassemia is not very high, but regarding the devastating potential risk of Cooley's anemia; a careful performance of Iranian thalassemia program is recommended. It seems that G6PD deficiency is prevalent in Lor nomads, so establishment of educational programs and investigation on their dietary habits seem to be a good way to prevent the favism occurrence.

Abstract:

Background: Students' physical health, performance, and comfort can be improved by designing equipment according to the needs of their body dimensions. This study aimed to establish a comprehensive database of anthropometric dimensions of students in Khorramabad, Lorestan, Iran. Materials and Methods: This descriptive study was conducted to estimate 22 anthropometric students’,dimensions in a sample of 4872 randomly selected students who belonged to the Lor ethnic group. The anthropometric dimensions were measured by a digital caliper and a standardized anthropometric instrument. Data were analyzed using a t-test, and the results were reported in tabular form. Results: The results showed that elementary school students' body dimensions were larger in girls, except for chest depth, abdominal depth, and buttock-knee length. Anthropometric estimates of middle school students indicated that most anthropometric dimensions of girls were larger than boys, for example, the average height in girls with 1531. 87 ±, 72. 84 was greater than boys with 1528. 16±, 101. 79 mm. Findings in high school students showed that most anthropometric parameters of boys were larger than girls. Also, the t-test showed a significant difference between the means of all measured parameters except the variable of buttock-knee length in male and female students (P <0. 05). Conclusions: Given the anthropometric differences obtained in this study, it can be concluded that in designing school equipment, especially desks and chairs, it is necessary to pay special attention to age, gender, level of education, and ethnicity of students in particular.

Abstract:

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: There are many similarities between modern popular culture and ancient Iranian rituals. Since the mythological and epic elements originated from popular culture, they remain stable among them. Until now, many similarities can be seen between the themes of Ferdowsi"s Shahnameh and the popular culture of the people of this time. The purpose of this research is to prove the similarity between the ancient ritual of marriage, in Ferdowsi"s Shahnameh, with its current form in the popular culture of Lor and Bakhtiari peoples. The intellectual and semantic level of these commonalities, which is one of the basic foundations of stylistics, is examined and analyzed in this research. METHODOLOGY: The method of investigation and study in this research is analytical-descriptive using the library method as well as field research and benefiting from the opinions of experts in the field of Shahnameh research and interviews with experts in the field of popular culture. FINDINGS: By exploring the Shahnameh, we can see that ritual and ancient topics have been discussed, which can still be seen in popular culture today. By examining the customs of the people of Lero Bakhtiari, many similarities between the ancient religion and their current form can be seen. Many of these customs are still held among the people, which both shows their dynamism in the present day and also speaks of people"s preservation of these ancient assets, which respond to the cultural needs of each period according to the conditions of the time. In this research, examples of these traditions are examined in marriage rituals. CONCLUSION: The investigations reveal that there are many similarities between the rituals of Ferdowsi"s Shahnameh and the popular culture of Ler and Bakhtiari people. Throughout the ages, these people have adopted the example of Shahnameh in their religion and have preserved this unity. The present study proves the religious similarities between marriage among these people and Ferdowsi"s Shahnameh, intellectually and semantically.
