Abstract: 

MONOPILES ARE COMMON FOUNDATIONS FOR OFFSHORE STRUCTURES SUCH AS WIND TURBINES AND THEY ARE COMMONLY USED AS FENDER PILES IN PORT STRUCTURES. IN SUCH STRUCTURES, ESPECIALLY IN OWTS, THE RATIO OF PILE LENGTH TO DIAMETER (L/D) IS SMALL WHICH MAKES THE PILE BEHAVE AS A RIGID STRUCTURE. HOWEVER, THE PILE FLEXURAL (BENDING) STIFFNESS STILL AFFECTS THE PILE LOAD-DISPLACEMENT CHARACTERISTICS AND MAYBE SHOULD NOT BE IGNORED IN THE PILE DESIGN. IN THIS STUDY, THE EFFECT OF PILE FLEXURAL STIFFNESS ON A SHORT MONOPILE SUBJECTED TO STATIC LATERAL LOAD IS INVESTIGATED. THE MODELED PILE HAS ASPECT RATIO OF 5 (L/D=5) WHICH IS DRIVEN INTO MEDIUM SAND. THE MAIN CHARACTERISTICS OF PILE STATIC LATERAL BEHAVIOR INCLUDING LATERAL RESISTANCE, STIFFNESS, DEFLECTIONS, BENDING DISTRIBUTION AND TOE-KICK ARE INVESTIGATED AND RESULTS ARE DISCUSSED. RESULTS SHOW THAT IN THE STUDIED CASE, THE PILE BEHAVIOR PATTERN IS IN THE MIDDLE OF FLEXIBLE AND COMPLETELY RIGID PILE AND THEREFORE BENDING STIFFNESS HAS MEANINGFUL EFFECTS ON SOME IMPORTANT PARAMETERS RELATED TO MONOTONIC PERFORMANCE.

FULLY DYNAMIC ANALYSIS OF OFFSHORE STRUCTURES UNDER RANDOM WAVE LOADS IN TIME DOMAIN IS SOMETIMES NECESSARY FOR CALCULATING STRUCTURAL RESPONSES IN DESIGN ISSUES. SUCH ANALYSES ARE VERY TIME CONSUMING AND THEREFOR SIMPLIFIED METHODS FOR ESTIMATION OF ACCEPTABLE RESPONSE OF THESE STRUCTURES CAN BE VERY USEFUL IN INITIAL DESIGN. IN THIS PAPER AN INNOVATIVE METHOD TO OBTAIN RESPONSE SPECTRUM OF FIXED OFFSHORE STRUCTURES CAUSED BY EXTREME WAVES IS REPRESENT BASED ON CONCEPT OF IMPULSE RESPONSE SPECTRUM. FOR THIS PURPOSE THE STRUCTURAL SYSTEM IS CONSIDERED AS A SIMPLE ONE DEGREE OF FREEDOM STRUCTURE AND THE DIFFERENT SEA STATES ARE EQUALIZED TO DIFFERENT HALF SINUSOIDAL PULSES. RESPONSE SPECTRUM OF STRUCTURE IS DEFINED AS A PLOT OF STRUCTURAL RESPONSE TO THESE PULSES FOR DIFFERENT PERIODS. BY USING THIS METHOD THE COST OF COMPUTATIONS IS DECREASED SIGNIFICANTLY WHILE THE ACCURACY OF RESULTS WAS PRESERVED.

THE MARINE INDUSTRY REQUIRES CONTINUED DEVELOPMENT OF NEW TECHNOLOGIES IN ORDER TO PRODUCE OIL. HENCE, AN IMPORTANT REQUIREMENT IN DESIGN IS TO BE ABLE TO COMPARE EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS FROM PROTOTYPE STRUCTURES WITH PREDICTED RESULTS FROM A CORRESPONDING FINITE ELEMENT MODEL (FEM). IN THIS CONTEXT, MODEL UPDATING MAY BE DEFINED AS THE FIT OF AN EXISTING ANALYTICAL MODEL IN THE LIGHT OF MEASURED VIBRATION TEST. AFTER FITTING, THE UPDATED MODEL IS EXPECTED TO REPRESENT THE DYNAMIC BEHAVIOR OF THE STRUCTURE MORE ACCURATELY. IN THIS WAY, THIS WORK PRESENTS A DIRECT BASED UPDATING STUDY OF A REDUCED SCALE FOUR-STORY SPATIAL FRAME JACKET STRUCTURE FABRICATED AND TESTED AT THE LABORATORY OF STRUCTURAL DYNAMICS. ALSO, AN EFFICIENT MODEL UPDATING PROCESS WAS PRESENTED WITH LIMITED MODAL DATA, WHICH USES MODAL DATA IN ORDER TO IMPROVE THE CORRELATION BETWEEN THE EXPERIMENTAL AND ANALYTICAL MODELS. THE PROPOSED TECHNIQUE IS COMPUTATIONALLY EFFICIENT SINCE IT DOES NOT REQUIRE ITERATIONS. IT UPDATES THE MASS AND STIFFNESS MATRIX SUCH THAT THEY ARE COMPATIBLE WITH THE MODAL DATA OF THE OBSERVED MODES.

COASTAL EROSION HAS ALWAYS BEEN A SERIOUS PROBLEM IN SHORELINES, WHICH CAUSES HEAVY DAMAGE TO COASTLINES AND PUBLIC PROPERTIES AROUND THE WORLD. THE CURRENT STUDY PRESENTS A COMPARATIVE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT ASSESSMENT OF TWO PROTECTIVE ALTERNATIVES IN COASTAL AND SHORELINE STRUCTURES, INCLUDING TRADITIONAL RUBBLE SYSTEM AND A MORE NOVEL ONE CALLED GEOTUBE SYSTEM. A CASE STUDY OF TWO BREAKWATER STRUCTURES IN BUSHEHR AND QESHM IN THE SOUTH OF IRAN WAS PERFORMED AND BENEFICIAL ASPECTS OF GEOTUBE SYSTEM WERE IDENTIFIED.

AS ACCESS TO INTERNATIONAL WATERS INDUCES A DIRECT EFFECT ON THE LEVEL AND QUALITY OF NATIONAL SECURITY, SO, IN THIS PAPER WHICH IS OF A REVIEW KIND AFTER A SHORT REVIEW OF DEFINITION OF SECURITY AND ITS ELEMENTS, PRESENT CONDITIONS OF THESE ELEMENTS IN IRANIAN SOUTHERN PORTS ARE DISCUSSED. QUANTITATIVE ASSESSMENT OF THE PROBABILITY OF FAILURE OF A JACKET PLATFORM UNDER EXTREME METOCEAN LOADS IS A MULTI-DISCIPLINARY TASK, POSES SIGNIFICANT CHALLENGES AND INVOLVES A LARGE NUMBER OF UNCERTAINTIES REGARDING THE METOCAEN HAZARDS, STRUCTURAL SYSTEM AND MODELLING, LOADS, MATERIAL BEHAVIOUR AND GEOTECHNICAL INFORMATION. THE PROBABILITY OF FAILURE IS COMMONLY ESTIMATED USING A RELIABILITY ANALYSIS TO ACCOUNT FOR UNCERTAINTIES IN DERIVATION OF BOTH THE LOADING AND THE STRENGTH.DIFFERENT SOURCES OF UNCERTAINTIES CONTRIBUTE TO THE PLATFORM ULTIMATE STRENGTH. SENSITIVITY ANALYSIS SHOULD BE CARRIED OUT TO PROVIDE QUANTITATIVE INFORMATION NECESSARY FOR CLASSIFYING RANDOM VARIABLES ACCORDING TO THEIR IMPORTANCE. THESE MEASURES ARE ESSENTIAL FOR RELIABILITY-BASED SERVICE LIFE PREDICTION OF DETERIORATING MATERIALS AND STRUCTURES. ACCORDINGLY, IN THIS PAPER, TORNADO APPROACH HAS BEEN USED TO IDENTIFY THOSE VARIABLES THAT AFFECT THE FAILURE MOST SO THAT MORE RESEARCH CAN FOCUS ON THOSE VARIABLES. TO THIS END, SIX EXISTING OFFSHORE PLATFORMS LOCATED IN PERSIAN GULF ARE INVESTIGATED. THE RESULTS HAVE BEEN PRESENTED IN THE FORM OF A TORNADO DIAGRAM WHICH WILL GRAPHICALLY SHOW THE SENSITIVITY OF THE TARGET FUNCTION TO EACH RANDOM VARIABLE.

SHORELINE IS THE BOUNDARY BETWEEN LAND AND OCEAN MASSES. SHORELINE CHANGE IS CONSIDERED TO BE ONE OF THE MOST DYNAMIC PROCESSES IN THE COASTAL AREA. ACCURATE SHORELINE DETECTION HAS GREAT IMPORTANCE AS A PRIOR STEP OF LAND USE/LAND COVER MONITORING AND PLANNING. TRADITIONAL SHORELINE MAPPING IN SMALL AREAS IS CARRIED OUT USING CONVENTIONAL FIELD SURVEYING METHODS. DUE TO THE SUBJECTIVITY AND SUBSTANTIAL EFFORT INVOLVED IN MANUAL DELINEATION, AN AUTOMATIC DELINEATION METHOD HAS BEEN LONG DESIRED. THE PURPOSE OF THIS RESEARCH IS TO PRESENT A METHODOLOGY TO AUTOMATED SHORELINE EXTRACTION FROM OPTICAL IMAGES BY IMAGE PROCESSING TECHNICS. Abstract: 

DEVELOPING NUMERICAL TANKS TO STUDY WAVE STRUCTURE INTERACTION DREW ENGINEERS’ ATTENTION IN LAST DECADE. NUMERICAL WAVE TANKS ARE ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL FOR INVESTIGATING WAVE-STRUCTURE INTERACTION. THIS PAPER PRESENTS TWO DIFFERENT NUMERICAL SOFTWARE CAPABILITIES TO GENERATE REGULAR GRAVITY WAVES IN A WAVE TANK. THE WAVE GENERATION WAS PERFORMED USING THE FLUENT PACKAGE AND FLOW-3D. BOTH MODELS ARE BASED ON NAVIER-STOKES AND VOF EQUATIONS. THE RESULTS OF THE MENTIONED MODELS WERE COMPARED WITH THEORETICAL RESULTS. FREE SURFACE ELEVATION AND HORIZONTAL COMPONENT OF WAVE PARTICLE VELOCITY WERE THE TWO PARAMETERS WHICH HAVE BEEN CONSIDERED FOR COMPARISON. RESULTS INDICATE THAT FLOW-3D IN SOME CASES IS A BIT MORE ACCURATE THAN FLUENT IN CAPTURING FREE SURFACE ELEVATION. IN NUMERICAL MODELS IT IS IMPORTANT TO DISSIPATE WAVE ENERGY AND PREVENT WAVE REFLECTION. IN THIS WAY FOUR DIFFERENT SLOPES WERE EVALUATED TO DETERMINE THE MINIMUM SLOPE NEEDED FOR WAVE ENERGY DISSIPATION. THE RESULTS SHOWED THAT A MINIMUM SLOPE OF 1V: 35H IS NEEDED TO AVOID WAVE REFLECTION. THE VARIATION OF STREAMLINES AND VELOCITY POTENTIAL ARE ALSO STUDIED. THE PATTERN OF HORIZONTAL AND VERTICAL VELOCITY VARIATION IN THE FLUID DOMAIN IS SIMILAR TO STREAM FUNCTION AND POTENTIAL VELOCITY FUNCTION VARIATION, RESPECTIVELY.

HOWEVER, AS A TRANSFER AREA MAY BE OUT OF RANGE OF PORT SERVICES A CONTINGENCY PLAN WITHIN THE SOPEP (SHIPBOARD OIL POLLUTION EMERGENCY PLAN) OR VRP (VESSEL RESPONSE PLAN) TO COVER SUCH RISK SHOULD BE AVAILABLE AND SHOULD BE ACTIVATED IN THE CASE OF AN OIL SPILL.EXISTENCE OF PORTABLE TOOLS BOX OF SOPEP PLAYS A MAJOR ROLE IN EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS. VIKOR RESULTS INDICATES THAT APRIN, MOTAHARI, RAJAEE AND SARAKHS DRY PORTS HAVE BETTER CONDITION IN COMPARISON TO OTHER DRY PORTS. THE FMEA RESULTS INDICATES THAT GOODS HAS NOT BEEN SENT ON TIME TO DRY PORT BECAUSE OF SHORTAGE IN ROAD AND RAIL VEHICLES AND INFRASTRUCTURES OR FOR EXTRA REGULATION AND CUSTOMS INSPECTIONS WHICH ARE BIGGEST PROBLEMS IN TRADE CYCLE. THE CURRENT STUDY AIMED TO BY INVESTIGATING THE EFFECTS OF CONTAINER SHIPPING, PROVIDE A OUTLOOK OF CONTAINER SHIPPING INDUSTRY IN PERSIAN GULF REGION. THIS STUDY IDENTIFIES PRODUCTIVE MOVEMENTS OF CONTAINERS AND EXAMINES THE PRODUCTIVITY OF CONTAINER STACKING AND RETRIEVAL OPERATIONS IN CONTAINER TERMINALS USING AUTOMATED YARD GANTRY CRANES. IT USES THE INDICES OF ACCESSIBILITY AND INTRODUCES A COMPREHENSIVE DEFINITION FOR THE PRODUCTIVITY OF CONTAINER TERMINAL OPERATION. THIS STUDY SETS UP A BASIS FOR THE ENHANCEMENT OF PRODUCTIVITY AND UTILISATION OF TIME AND SPACES IN THE MODERN CONTAINER TERMINALS. IT IS ARGUED THAT A CONSIDERABLE SAVING IN THE CYCLE TIME AND RE-HANDLINGS OF CONTAINERS CAN BE ACHIEVED BY THE ENHANCEMENT OF THE STACKING BLOCKS. REDUCING THE CYCLE TIMES WILL HELP THE GANTRY CRANES TO SIGNIFICANTLY CONTRIBUTE IN THE REDUCTION OF THE TURNAROUND TIME OF CONTAINERSHIPS AT CONTAINER TERMINALS.

OFFSHORE STRUCTURES SUPPLY VESSELS DURING OPERATION ARE AT RISK OF COLLISION. THE SHIP HAS RANDOM LOAD, INCLUDING OFFSHORE STRUCTURES RESISTANCE IS RAISED. STRUCTURAL STUDY EXAMINED THE ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS INTERMEDIATE DEPTH OCEAN WATER USING ABAQUS FINITE ELEMENT MODEL OF THE SOFTWARE. THE EFFECTS OF STATIC PRELOAD WEIGHT OF TURBINE BLADES AND ENVIRONMENTAL LOADS (WIND, WAVE, SEA CURRENT AND THE WATER PRESSURE ON THE TURBINES) BEFORE HITTING THE SHIP DYNAMICS, IN TERMS OF THE STRUCTURAL BEHAVIOR. PARAMETERS SUCH AS POWER AND MOMENTUM OF SUPPORT, AROUND THE TURBINE HORIZONTAL DISPLACEMENT, STRESS AND STRAIN VON-MISES DIFFERENT PARTS OF TURBINES IN DIFFERENT LOADING CONDITIONS (CHANGE IN MASS DISPLACEMENT OF PICKY FLOAT) COMPARED TOGETHER AND THE RESULTS ARE DISCUSSED.

A COMPUTATIONAL FLUID DYNAMIC (CFD) CODE HAS BEEN DEVELOPED FOR SIMULATION OF TWO-DIMENSIONAL FLAPPING FOIL PROBLEM. VISCOS FLOW HAS BEEN SIMULATED IN AN ARBITRARY LAGRANGIAN-EULERIAN DESCRIPTION AND A HIGH QUALITY MESH DEFORMATION TECHNIQUE USED FOR MODIFYING OF THE GRID STRUCTURE. THE ABILITIES OF CODE IS VERIFIED IN COMPARE OF OTHER REFERENCES VALUES AND A GOOD AGREEMENT WITH OTHER NUMERICAL RESULTS HAS BEEN OBSERVED. STRUCTURES OF VORTICES ARE SIMULATED AND EFFECT OF THEM IN LEADING AND TRAILING EDGE REGIONS ON THE THRUST GENERATION IS INVESTIGATED. THE MECHANISM OF THRUST GENERATION IN FLAPPING FOIL IS ATTENDED AND OBSERVED THAT IT WORKS BASED ON EXHAUST OF MOMENTUM, LOOK LIKE OTHER PROPULSION SYSTEMS. A MEAN FLOW, WHICH HAS AVERAGED DURING 22 PERIOD OF OSCILLATION, SHOWED THE ACCELERATING OF FLOW BEHIND THE FOIL AND RESEMBLANCE OF THE FLOW PATTERN WITH A JET FLOW. BUT FLAPPING FOIL IN CONTRAST TO JET FLOW HAS AN UNSTEADY INHERENT.

STRUCTURAL RESPONSE OF DIFFERENT TYPES OF CONVENTIONAL DEEP WATER RISER AFFECTED BY MOORING SYSTEMS IN HARSH ENVIRONMENT IS FOCUSED IN THIS STUDY. WITH INCREASING WATER DEPTH, THE MOORING SYSTEM DESIGN OF A FLOATING-TYPE PRODUCTION PLATFORM BECOMES MORE IMPORTANT AND COMPLICATED FROM COST AS WELL AS SAFE OPERATION POINT OF VIEW. WITH THE DEVELOPMENT OF OFFSHORE OIL AND GAS EXPLOITATION, FPSO WITH MANY ADVANTAGES CAN BETTER ADAPT TO THE COMPLICATED ENVIRONMENT OF DEEP SEA. ACCORDING TO THE CURRENT MOORING SYSTEM DEVELOPMENT, THIS STUDY COMPARES THE EFFECT OF SPREAD MOORING SYSTEM AND TURRET MOORING SYSTEM ON RISER STRUCTURAL RESPONSE. BOTH SYSTEMS CONSISTS OF 12 MOORING LINES AND EACH LINE IS MADE FROM TWO COMPONENTS. THREE TYPES OF MORE CONVENTIONALLY USED DEEP WATER RISERS HAVE BEEN SELECTED AND APPLIED WITH THE MOORING SYSTEMS, RESULTING IN 6 DIFFERENT CASE STUDIES. THE CASE STUDIES HAVE BEEN MODELED IN ORCAFLEX SOFTWARE WITH SAME EXTREME ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS. COMPARING BENDING MOMENT IN THE RISERS, AS ONE OF THE MAIN DESIGN PARAMETER, SHOWS THE EFFECT OF PROPER SELECTION OF THE RISER AND MOORING SYSTEM.

INCREASING SPEED, DECREASING WEIGHT AND HAVING SUFFICIENT RESISTANCE ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT PARAMETERS IN DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OF UNMANNED CRAFTS. CURRENT MODEL OF THIS FAST CRAFT HAS BEEN CONSTRUCTED IN THE SCALE 1/15 OF SIMILAR CRAFT, WHICH IS A SINGLE-BODY RACER CRAFT. THE CRAFT DESIGN IS PREFORMED IN VARIOUS SOFTWARE SUCH AS MAXSURF MARINE SOFTWARE. THE MATERIAL OF THE CRAFT IS ALUMINUM AND HAS PROPELLER PROPULSION SYSTEM. TWO TYPES OF STEERING OPERATION MECHANISMS FOR THE PROPULSION SYSTEM ARE DESIGNED AND TESTED, WHICH ARE: STEERING BY RUDDER AND STEERING BY PROPULSION SYSTEM OF MOVING SHAFT, IN WHICH PROVIDES CAPABILITY OF STEERING MOVEMENT FOR THE CRAFT. AT THE FIRST MECHANISM, CRAFT MANEUVER IS VIA DEVIATION OF POSITIVE FLOW OF THE PROPELLER ON THE BLADE OF RUDDER. BUT MANEUVER IN THE SECOND MECHANISM IS POSSIBLE BY POSITIVE PROPELLER THRUST (PROPELLER MOVEMENT LATERALLY), WHICH LEADS TO INCREASE OF MANEUVER EFFICIENCY. IN THIS CRAFT, 2 MOTOR WITH 1300 WATT POWER ARE USED. THIS CRAFT CONSIDERING THE BODY SHAPE AND PROPULSION SYSTEM CAN ACHIEVE UP TO 14 KNOTS SPEED. IN RODENT TO EXAMINE PROPULSION SYSTEM OPERATION, SPEED AND MANEUVER TEST HAVE BEEN DONE TO THE CRAFT. ALSO THE TEST OF PROPER LENGTH POSITION OF CENTER OF MASS IN ORDER TO REDUCE PORPOIZING HAS BEEN DONE, WHICH FINALLY, THE RESULT IS 30 CM FROM THE TOE (CONSIDERING LENGTH OF CRAFT IS 95 CM). THIS CRAFT HAS THE CAPABILITY OF REMOTE CONTROL AND SMART CONTROL IN SPIRAL AND CIRCULAR PATH. IN THIS PAPER, THE DESIGN, CONSTRUCTION AND TESTING STAGES OF THE CRAFT HAS BEEN DONE.
