POLYSTYRENE OPAL AND TITANIA INVERSE OPAL FILMS WERE FABRICATED BY CAPILLARY DEPOSITION METHOD (CDM). THEY WERE CHARACTERIZED OPTICALLY, BY SEM AND MOSTLY BY SANS. SANS DATA WERE ANALYZED IN RESPECT TO STRUCTURAL IMPERFECTION AND LATTICE DEFORMATION. THE RESULTS SHOW THAT THERE IS NO DEFORMATION IN SPECIAL LATTICE DIRECTIONS. HOWEVER, EFFECTS OF TWINNING OF THE DENSE- PACKED STRUCTURE AND PLANE- LIKE LATTICE PERTURBATIONS HAVE BEEN OBSERVED. A MODEL IS PROPOSED TO EXPLAIN DIFFERENT PEAK INTENSITIES IN THE NEUTRON DIFFRACTION PATTERN. MOREOVER, THE ROCKING CURVES SHOW THAT SMALL PERFECT CRYSTAL PARTS ARE ALIGNED BETTER THAN ±3° AND ±11° FOR THE OPALS AND INVERSE OPALS, RESPECTIVELY.
