Abstract: 

EXERCISE IN HOT AND HUMID CONDITIONS CAUSE REMARKABLE PHYSIOLOGIC CHALLENGES FOR ENDURANCE ATHLETES. THE AIM OF THE CURRENT STUDY WAS TO INVESTIGATE THE EFFECTS OF CARBOHYDRATE CONSUMPTION DURING ENDURANCE CYCLING PERFORMANCE ON F2– ISOPROSTANES AS AN OXIDATIVE STRESS BIOMARKER. SAGO FLOUR IS A COMMERCIAL STARCH SOURCE THAT IS FREQUENTLY USED IN TROPICAL COUNTRIES, LIKE MALAYSIA, AS CARBOHYDRATE INGESTION. THE CONSUMPTIONS OF SAGO HAVE BEEN SHOWN TO IMPROVE ENDURANCE PERFORMANCE. TWELVE WELL– TRAINED MALE CYCLISTS (AGE: 19. 0± 5. 6 YEARS, BODY WEIGHT: 60. 1± 11. 2 KG, HEIGHT: 170. 8± 7. 6 CM, AND VO2MAX: 56. 5± 6. 5 ML. KG-1. MIN-1) PEDALED AT 60% OF VO2MAX FOR 1. 5 HOURS FOLLOWED BY A 20– KM CYCLING TIME TRIAL IN THE HEAT (31° C; 70% RELATIVE HUMIDITY). FROM THE START OF THE CYCLING AND AT 20– MINUTE INTERVALS DURING 1. 5 HOURS CYCLING PARTICIPANTS INGESTED 200 ML OF 7. 5% OF THE SAGO SUPPLEMENT. THERE WAS A SIGNIFICANT REDUCTION OF PLASMA F2– ISOPROSTANES CONCENTRATIONS AFTER ENDURANCE CYCLING AS COMPARED TO THE BASELINE LEVELS. THIS STUDY HAS SHOWN THAT SAGO SUPPLEMENTATION WAS ABLE TO LOWER THE OXIDATIVE STRESS IN THE RECOVERY AFTER ENDURANCE CYCLING PERFORMANCE IN THE HEAT.

Abstract: 

INTRODUCTION: “ SOFT DRINK CONSUMPTION HAS BECOME A HIGHLY VISIBLE AND CONTROVERSIAL PUBLIC HEALTH AND PUBLIC POLICY ISSUE. ” EVEN THOUGH IT IS WIDELY ACCEPTED THAT SOFT DRINKS CONTRIBUTE TO OSTEOPOROSIS, HEART DISEASE, DEMENTIA, OBESITY, AND TYPE II DIABETES MELLITUS, SOFT DRINKS ARE AMONG THE NINE MOST CONSUMED DRINKS AROUND THE WORLD. ONE TYPE OF SOFT DRINK THAT IS BEING HIGHLY RESEARCHED ON IS DIET SOFT DRINK/SODA. DIET SODAS CONTAIN ARTIFICIAL SUGARS, SUCH AS ASPARTAME AND SUCRALOSE, INSTEAD OF NATURAL COMPLEX SUGARS TO SEEMINGLY REDUCE THE RISK OF DEVELOPING DIABETES AND GAINING WEIGHT. SOFT DRINKS ARE VERY POPULAR TO FEMALE TEENAGERS SUCH AS MYSELF, ESPECIALLY DIET SODAS FOR THOSE OF US WHO WOULD LIKE TO MAINTAIN A BALANCED NON-CALORIC DIET THAT WOULD NOT INCREASE THE RISK OF DEVELOPING TYPE II DIABETES MELLITUS. AIM: THE AIM OF THIS EXPERIMENT IS TO EXAMINE THE EFFECTS THAT SUGAR SWEETENED SODA AND ARTIFICIAL SUGAR SWEETENED SODA HAVE ON THE BLOOD GLUCOSE LEVEL OF 15-18-YEAR-OLD FEMALE PARTICIPANTS, USING THEIR FASTING BLOOD SUGAR (FBS) AS A BASELINE FOR THE EXPERIMENT. CONCLUSION: EITHER SODA TYPE HAD ITS OWN UNIQUE IMPACT ON EACH PARTICIPANT, BUT THE GENERAL RESULT ATTAINED SUGGESTS A RATE OF RECURRENCE OF BGL (BLOOD GLUCOSE LEVEL) RAISING REMARKABLY AFTER 30 MINUTES OF NORMAL SODA CONSUMPTION, AND BGL STAYING TENACIOUS AFTER DIET SODA CONSUMPTION. ON THE CONTRARY, THE FASTING BGL OF THE PARTICIPANTS DID NOT STAY UNSWERVING THROUGHOUT THE STUDY, THE FBS OF PARTICIPANTS AFTER DRINKING BOTH DIET AND NORMAL SODA SHOWED A 5. 85% INCREASE IN 21 DAYS. THIS RAISES CONCERNS FOR THOSE WHO DRINK EITHER SODA FREQUENTLY. DIET SODA, IN FACT, RAISED THE MEAN FASTING BGL OF PARTICIPANTS THE HIGHEST IN THE THIRD TRIAL, SUGGESTING THAT PERHAPS DIET SODA CONSUMPTION MAY EVENTUALLY LEAD TO TYPE II DIABETES MUCH FASTER IN TEENAGE GIRLS.

Abstract: 

BACKGROUND: INDUSTRIALIZATION HAS INCREASED AIR POLLUTION IN LARGE CITIES. DUE TO THE ASSOCIATION BETWEEN AIR POLLUTION AND MEMORY IMPAIRMENT, ANXIETY AND THE EFFECTIVENESS OF ANTIOXIDANTS IN IMPROVING THESE, IT WAS SUGGESTED THAT A HIGH LEVEL OF ANTIOXIDANTS MAY HAVE ADVERSE EFFECTS OF AIR POLLUTION ON BRAIN FUNCTION, MEMORY, AND ANXIETY. OBJECTIVE: THIS STUDY INVESTIGATE THE INTERACTION BETWEEN AIR POLLUTION AND TOTAL ANTIOXIDANT CAPACITY (DTAC) ON THE TEACHER'S ANXIETY AND MEMORY IN THE TWO POLLUTED AND LESS POLLUTED AREAS OF TEHRAN. METHODS: IN CROSS-SECTIONAL STUDY. AIR QUALITY INDEX(IQA) ASSESSED IN 200 TEACHERS FROM TWO POLLUTED AND LESS POLLUTED AREAS OF TEHRAN. IT INCLUDE 6 AIR POLLUTANTS SUBSTANCES(CO, SO2, NO2, O3, PARTICULATE MATTER (PM<2. 2μ M). PARTICULATE MATTER (PM<01μ M). THE DATA FROM DTAC ESTIMATED BY FOOD FREQUENCY QUESTIONNAIRE(FFQ). WECHSLER AND SPIELBERGER TESTS WAS USED FOR MEMORY AND ANXIETY MEASURMENT, RESPECTIVELY. RESULTS: A MEAN OF ANXIETY AND MEMORY IN TWO AREAS DID NOT SHOW STATISTICALLY SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCES. RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN DIETARY TAC AND AIR POLLUTION IN DETERMINING MEMORY BENEFIT AND ANXIETY LEVELS WAS NON SIGNIFICANT. CONCLUSIONS: THERE WAS NO SIGNIFICANT RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN DIETARY TAC AND AIR POLLUTION IN DETERMINING MEMORY BENEFIT AND ANXIETY LEVELS.
