The main aim of this research was to study the general status of books translated into persian during the years 1991-2000. Variables were: subject, country of origin and of publication, publishers, author, language, reprinting, gender and translator(s). The subject areas under' study were Science, Engineering, Agriculture and Medicine. This survey employed the bibliometncs method to study all translated books (6677 titles) published in the above mentioned areas during 1991-2000and listed in the last edition of the Iranian National Bibliography on CD. Finding indicated that among 6677 translated books, 2484 titles (37.2%) were in Science 2206 titles (33.1%) in Medicine, 1568 titles (23.5%) in Engineering, 419 titles (6.2%) in Agriculture. The active publishers for translated books are 1505. Tehran had 1184 publishers (78.7%) and other cities had 321 Publishers. From the total 6677 translated books, only 1671 titles (25.02%) were reprinted. 4921 titles(73.7%)were translated by individual (single) translators and 1756 titles (26.3%)were translated jointly.6719 translators were male (79.68%), 1601 translators (18.97%) were female and 113 (1.35%)were organizations. Among the 8433 translators, 15female translators and 78male translators were the most active translators by translating more than one book. Translated books in 1370shad a climbing curve but we observed a decline in 1992and 1995. About (91%) of books were translated from English, French, German and Russian Languages, but English is a dominat language by 79/91 percent. There is a meaningful relationship (P =0/000) and (99%) between the language, subject and the country of the origin of publication.
