Abstract

In the era of information explosion, access to relevant resources on the Internet, is one of the serious concerns of users. Thus, it is necessary to be familiar with types of search tools. One of the search tools that were designed to solve this problem is METASEARCH ENGINES (MSEs). How far this search tool, can solve users' problem in accessing relevant resources on the Internet which is the main concern of this study. In other words, this research aims to examine MSEs in terms of their SEARCH CAPABILITIES, RECALL RATIO and RANKING difference in comparison to the common underlying SEARCH ENGINES (SEs). Findings indicate that MSEs have suitable SEARCH CAPABILITIES and users can rely on them in searching and retrieving relevant and pertinent documents.Furthermore, the results reveal that there is significant difference between RANKING of retrievals in SEs and RANKING of MSEs. Finally, those MSEs which have better RECALL RATIO and more SEARCH CAPABILITIES have been introduced. Some suggestions for using MSEs and for further research have been recommended.
