Abstract:

As estimating Survey-based regional input-output table is costly, researchers tend to use non-survey based methods instead. In this paper, using two non-survey based methods, i. e. CHARM and AFLQ, input-output table of Khuzestan province is estimated. The CHARM method provides the possibility of estimation of export, cross-hauling and degree of heterogeneity while AFLQ method considers adjusted of regional size and specialized sector. Furthermore, the results show that according to backward and forward indicators, sectors ranking is completely different. In CHARM method and based on backward linkage, basic metals and based on forward linkage other mines are leading, but in AFLQ method, rubber and plastic and electricity are leading according to backward and forward linkages.

Abstract:

Growth is one of the most important economic goals all countries which is influenced by several factors. In this paper, thus, using Vector Auto Regressive Panel (P-Var), we are trying to examine the effects of oil shocks, exchange rate and foreign direct investment on economic growth of OPEC countries during the period of 2000-2012. The results show that positive shocks in oil revenues, devaluation of the national currency (exchange rate appreciation) and an increase in foreign direct investment lead to increase in economic growth of OPEC countries.

Abstract:

The effect of exchange rate on exports through changes in export prices and discovering factors affecting the extent of exchange rate impact on export pricing are of the most important issues in international economics. Due to the importance of exports in Iran, this study tries to examine the effect of openness degree and inflation rate on exchange rate pass-through in Iran during the period of 1971-2010. For this purpose, using ARDL approach, short and long run relationships are estimated in this paper. The results show that there is a significantly positive relationship between exchange rate and export price index. Further, the computed exchange rate pass-through is 0.83. This means that a large part of exchange rate changes transfers to export price of the origin country while a small part of it transfers to import price of the destination country. The results also suggest that openness degree increase the effect of exchange rate on export price. Finally, inflation rate increases exchange rate pass-through in Iran.

Abstract:

Based on the biological condition, all countries have certain capacity of water resources, that can be calculated by ecological capacity. Consuming water more than the available capacity leads to devastating effect on environment. In this paper we have studied the effects of intermediate consumption of water by economic sectors on the water footprint in Iran economy. For this purpose, we have employed Social Accounting Matrix (SAM), version 2011. The results show that total water footprint of domestic and imported economic sectors was97.7 billion cubic meters of which 88 percent is of domestic water and 12 percent is from imported water. Furthermore, production in the sectors of wheat, cows and buffaloes, sheep, goats and other live animals except poultry, other crops, food production had the most domestic and imported water footprint with 66 percent of total economic sectors water footprint. However, subsectors of services ranked last.

Abstract:

The aim of this paper is investigating the impact of oil revenues on institutions in 18 selected oil exporting countries for the period of 1996 to 2012. Using the PVAR approach, a model of four variables, i.e. economic growth, inflation, economic freedom, and oil revenues, is estimated. The Granger causality test results show that oil revenues is the Granger causality of economic freedom. Further, related test shows that the model is stable. Finally, using the impulse response functions, the impact of oil revenues on economic freedom and other variables of the model is examined. The results suggest that oil revenues reduce the quality of institutions in the selected oil exporting countries.

Abstract:

The aim of this paper is to investigate and to assess the reaction of residential and commercial electricity demand to electricity prices shocks in Ahvaz. To do that, the correlative ARDL method is employed for the period of 2002 to 2012. In order to examine the effect of electricity price changes, Hodrick–Prescott filter (1980) is applied. The estimated function of electricity demand in Ahvaz shows that electricity is a high-elasticity good for both residential and commercial consumers. Furthermore, comparing residential and commercial elasticity prices shows that while residential consumers are more sensitive on price shocks, commercial consumers are more sensitive on the process of electricity prices. This means that removing subsidies from electricity that shocks the prices, has had more effects on residential consumers than commercial ones. The results also show that increase in temperature leads to increase in consuming electricity in both residential and commercial sectors. The error correction coefficient shows that the power of anticipating and adapting of the residential consumers is more than commercial electricity users in Ahvaz.
