Abstract:

Assessment of the quality of care during prenatal period is a way to protect the health of the mother and consequently the well being of the society, low birth weight, high newborn mortality and preterm delivery are the results of low quality of care. LQAS is a cheap and also fast approach to assess the quality of care given in parental phase. In this approach all responsible units are to be compared with standards and also with each other, and in order to do so, we conducted a descriptive study, in which 18 health centers were the participants.Data were collected through check lists and questionnaires. Our findings showed that only one center was the worst in providing prenatal care, and the rest provided acceptable level of care, we also found that referral cards and ferrous sulfate tablets are not enough in our city.To conclude, the quality of prenatal care in Astara city can be labaled as "accepted".

Abstract:

Authorities of nursing believe that the ability to think critically by nurses play an important role in providing individual care, solving problems and making complex decisions. Therefore, critical thinking ability is to be established during scientific experiences in nursing students and to be promoted in employed nurses.Determining and comparing critical thinking abilitys in first and last term baccalaureate nursing students and clinical nurses, a descriptive- comparative study was carried out in which 172 contributors, selected with stratified random sampling method filled up self reporting questionnaires.Findings revealed that 98.3% of clinical nurses, 94% of last term students and 93% of first term students were weak in critical thinking abilities, besides, there were significantly differences between nursing students and clinical nurses in average scores of inference (p<0.0001), interpretation (p=0.026), evaluation of arguments (p<00.01), and also, total scores of critical thinking abilities. In other words, differentiated aspects of critical thinking ability had higher levels in student nurses. Furthermore, we did not find significant differences between students and clinical nurses from the point of diagnosis of assumption and deduction abilities. To Conclude, regarding findings, although last term students had been involved in a 4 years nursing education curriculum, they were the same with the first term students from the point of their critical thinking abilities, and also, inspite of 2 years of clinical nursing experiences in nurses, their critical thinking abilities were significantly lower than students. So, revising present educational strategies and applying active learning method, both in theory and practice seems to be critical, and regarding clinical nurses, participating in problem solving and decision making situations is of great importance, and for both groups individual patient care with the basis of nursing process will promoted knowledge, attitude, skills and motivation, which all will promote critical thinking abilities consequently.

Abstract:

Disabled women as well as those without disability have the right to receive reproductive health care services. Since women with mobility impairment face diverse obstacles in receiving reproductive health care, reviewing these services received by them is of grate importance.Determining the reproductive health care services received by women with mobility impairment during disability period, we conducted a descriptive study in which questionnaires were used to collect the data, and the investigation was done on 241 handicapped women, ranged in age from 15-49 and all, members of Iranian handicapped society. The results revealed that 2.9% of the sample group had received sexual counseling before and after marriage, and less than half of them had participated in the family planning care service with all elements (except weight measuring and first visit pelvic exam). All elements of prenatal care (except blood and urine tests) were done for less than 40% and for 35% of the participants prenatal recommendations (except nutrition and breast feeding) were considered, Furthermore, all periodical prenatal care (except dentist visit) were done for about 60% -75% of disabled women and those who had Pap smear tests, breast self exam instructions, and breast physical exam by health staff were respectively 14%, 4.6% and 6.2%, besides, mammography was done for nobody in the group of more than 40 years old.Overall, according to the results it is estimated that only a small percentage of women with mobility impairment received reproductive health care. Therefore, further studies to explore obstacles faced by disabled women are recommended. Also it is suggested that available necessary services for cited citizens to be provided.

Abstract:

Repeated hospitalization due to chronic illnesses in children is inevitable, and as the result both parents and children experience stressful times. Considering that the parent s anxiety is easily transferred to children, talented, powerful and efficient parents can provide a safe support system for their ill child. Many parents show aggressive behavior, specially when they are not aware of the cause of the disease or the medical procedures which are done for their patients.Other sources of anxiety may be financial problems, child intolerance, separation from their most loved ones, uncertainty about future and probability of the disease being contagious.Consequently, these parents show different unsuitable behavior such as, restlessness, hypersensitivity and withdrawal.Nurses, whom are accessible, powerful and knowledgeable enough to give both parents and children support, play an important and undeniable role in reducing anxiety and sadness of both groups.

Abstract:

Infertility and its treatments cause either physical conflicts or mental reactions specially anxiety, that may influence treatment success. So, determining the effects of preparation sessions on anxiety level and treatment success of infertile women, 160 subjects between the ages of 18 to 35 years, selected casually and assigned in two groups of case and control contributed in a clinical trial study. The case group participated in preparation sessions, whereas both groups filled up anxiety questionnaris at the beginning of the study.Findings showed a statistically meaningful relation between the preparation sessions and the level of anxiety in these women (P<0/0001), But regarding treatment success we did not find any meaningful relationship. To conclude, being prepared has a positive effect on anxiety level of infertile women during treatment, so preparation sesssions should be considered in the process of treatment of them.

Abstract:

With dramatic increasing number of sudden deaths from coronary artery diseases and the importance of time saving in those with cardiac arrest, public teaching about basic resuscitation is a vital issue. So, to assess the impact of basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation training on knowledge and skill level of grade 3 high school students, a quasi-experimental study with 90 subjects of case and control groups was conducted. As the result we found statistically significant difference between scale mean of knowledge and skill in case and control groups after training (P=0.000) and the same result was shown between pre and post tests in case group (P=0.000) as a whole, 53.32% of the case group were able to do step by step cardiopulmonary resuscitation in a correct way.According to the results we suggest cooperation between ministries of health and education to provide rescue educational programs.

Abstract:

Oral Contraceptive Pill (OCP) is usually prescribed in the form of a combined estrogen and progesterone tablet. The combined pill can be presented as a monophasic pill in which the dose of both hormones is constant throughout the cycle. There is also a triphasic form in which the doses of the hormones vary three times. This form is thought to mimic the natural cycle more closely than other types and usually has a slightly lower overall dose of hormones. As with every medication there are potential side effects of the OCP, one of which is menstrual disorders.Comparing the side effects of two mentioned products, we carried out a descriptive study and 188 participants were assigned in two groups of 92 users of monophasic whereas, the rest were on triphasic drug. Our findings revealed that both drugs had the capability to decrease the amount of bleeding, the duration of the cycle and the intensity of dysmenorrhea. We did not find significant increase in spotting with triphasic drug, or any bleeding or/and amenorrhea with both drugs. To sum up, there is not any difference between the side effects of both drugs, and monophasic product can be compensated with triphasic one.

Abstract:

The most common site of cancer in women is breast, and breast cancer is the second cause of death in women fortunately, breast self exam (BSE) is a simple, noninvasive rout to early diagnosis of this fatal disease. So, in order to assess the knowledge level of the mentioned groups about (BSE) we conducted a descriptive, cross-sectional study and 428 subjects within which 208 patients, 155students and the rest, health care personnels participated in our research.Findings revealed that the level of awareness of 52.3% of the participants was low and it was good in 17.1%, whereas we put the rest in a border line domain. We also found that level of awareness was higher in midwifery students (P<0.001).Overall, we can reckon that the level of awareness to BSE is low and considering that it should be high in those who work in health providing areas, appropriate teaching programs is to be provided.
