Abstract: 

The present research carried out to stabilize nano-zirconium dioxide on a wool fabric using citric acid as a crosslinking agent and sodium hypophosphite as a catalyst under UV irradiation. The influence of the amount of nano-ZrO2 on the performance of wool fiber was investigated using Fourier transform infrared spectrophotometer (FTIR), scanning electron microscope (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray microanalysis (EDX), water contact angle test (WCA) and reflectance spectrophotometer (RS). The possible interactions between nano-zirconia particles, cross-linking agent and wool free radicals were elucidated by the FTIR spectroscopy. Results indicated that the stabilized nano-zirconia is capable for discoloration of methylene blue on wool under UV irradiation. J. Color Sci. Abstract: 

The opacity is one of the important properties of various commercial products such as paper. The common opacity measurement method by using spectrophotometer is expensive. This work explains the novel method for measuring opacity by using scanner as a lower cost instrument. The opacity is evaluated by using RGB value of paper image which was obtained by scanner. The obtained results indicate that opacity measurement performance of scanner is comparable with spectrophotometer. The best opacity estimation is obtained conversion RGB to CIELab color space. J. Abstract: 

Three vat dyes, namely C.I. Vat Blue 6, C.I. Vat Yellow 2 and C.I. Vat Red 13, were employed on cotton fabrics in order to provide camouflage in NIR region and imitate reflectance profile of greenish leaves. Results showed that the reflectance curve of dyed fabric with the mixture of dyes when concentration of Vat Blue 6 is 0.85% (owf) and 1.2% (owf), has more similarity with reflectance profile of greenish leaf, which states that vat blue 6 plays an important role in NIR camouflage. Green shades related to deciduous tree leaf and coniferous needle, NATO and forest green were received on cotton fabrics with color difference less than 2, in CIE1976 color space. The results of statistical analyses confirmed the matching of reflectance curves of the samples and the standard (0<R2<1). Wash and light fastness properties results of the samples showed that the dyes offer acceptable fastnesses on cotton fabric. J. Color Sci. Abstract: 

In this work, the effects of methacryloxypropyltrimethoxy silane (MPTMS) molar ratio, reaction’s pH and time, and water amount on the surface modification of fumed silica nanoparticles were studied. Possible interactions between the silane coupling agent and the functional groups on the surface of the silica nanoparticles were studied using Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. The grafting of MPS compounds on the nanoparticles surface was characterized using Thermo Gravimetric Analysis (TGA) technique. Then untreated (PSB-Si) and treated (PSB-MPS) fumed silica nanoparticles were included into the styrene: butyl acrylate wt. % ratio of 1:1 emulsion latex, throughout in-situ polymerization method. The synthesized latex samples were characterized using; FTIR and Laser Light Scattering (LLS) techniques. The results of characterization studies revealed the chemical interactions of silane compounds with silica nanoparticles with about 32 wt. % grafting. The silane and water amount, reaction time and pH, have significant effect on the nanoparticles grafting as a result of higher silane hydrolysis. The result of LLS and FTIR studies indicated that the polymerization reaction performed successfully and the inclusion of either untreated or treated nanoparticles has a main effect on the latex particles size. Abstract: 

Fluorescent materials are some kind of reagents with vast applications in sensors. Considering the importance of the deremination of sulfate ion in environmental, chemical, pharaceuticals and food samples, in this research we used the fluorescence properties of 2, 6-diphenyl-pyrylium tetrafluoroborate (DPF) for the design and construction of an optical sensor for the determination of SO42- ions. The results showed that the fluorescence intensity of DPF quenched upon the addition of sulfate ions, which was proportional to the sulfate concentration. Effective parameters were optimized and under optimal conditions the proposed optode was successfully applied to the determination of sulfate content in a drug sample. J. Color Sci. Abstract: 

The sipomer Pam 100 (sp100) monomer is introduced by Rodia company as adhesion promoter of lattices. In this research, an acrylic- styrene latex is synthesized. Sp100 was included in the range of 1-10% by the weight of the monomers. The other monomers were styrene methyl methacrylate (MMA), ethyl acrylate (EA) and acrylic acid(AA). Optimum contenet of sp100 was obtained at 10%. In the next step the effect of Tg on corrosion and adhesion in the absence of sp 100 was investigated using Fox equation. The best result of adhesion was obtained at Tg 30°C; and the least corrosion occurred at -10°C.In the third step of this research the synthesized lattices were neutralizeaed with different bases: NaOH, amonia and monoethanolamine then they compared with their acid form. The best adhesion and corrosion resistance was obtained by the sample which neutralized by NaoH and Ammonia respectively. Adhesion evaluated by cross cut test and corrosion was studied by salt spray under the standards ASTM D3359 and ASTM D714 respectively. J. Color Sci. Abstract: 

In this study, a novel disperse dyestuff based on indoline derived from phenothiazine as the starting material using a standard methods was prepared. To this end, phenothiazine was exposed to some consecutive reactions including alkylation, oxidation, nitration, and redox reactions in order to obtain the synthesized disperse dyestuff. All intermediates and the final disperse dyestuff were purified and then characterized by the use of DSC, FTIR, 1HNMR, 13CNMR, elemental analysis and UV-Visible spectrophotometry. Spectrophotometric properties of the prepared dyestuff in various solvents such as toluene, DMF and acetone showed that the synthesized dyestuff has a positive solvatochromism effect as well as appropriate color strength. Finally, the synthesized dyestuff was used to dye polyester fibers at high temperature (i.e. 130 ºC). The measured spectrophotometric attributes of dyed fibers showed that the synthesized dyestuff has a good build up on polyester fibers. In addition, assessment of fastness properties of dyed fibers showed that the synthesized dyestuff has excellent wash and sublimation fastnesses as well as good to very good light fastness. J. Abstract: 

Recently, demands for the automotive coatings with good protective resistance and better appearance are grown up. So that in this research two kinds of UV stabilizer, nano Zinc Oxide and nano Titania were used in an automotive corrosion resistant primer to improve the light resistance of coatings. After that the corrosion resistance of the nano composite coatings, under some accelerated weathering condition like dry UV cabin and immersion in 3.5 wt% NaCl solutions were studied. The results show that presence of these additives even in a small amount could improve about 10 times the UV stability and corrosion resistance of coatings. J. Color Sci. Abstract: 

The aim of the present study was to investigate and compare the performance of various color matching procedures inclusive of color matching based on Allen's rough match and an iterative procedure using the CIELAB color difference formula, spectrophotometric procedures such as McGinnis least square method, iterative method, weighted iterative method and spectrophotometric color matching based on fundamental color stimulus. To this end, 165 samples were dyed. Initially, the comparisons were made theoretically on the basis of color differences and indices of metamerism. Additionally, such comparison was extended practically by dyeing 24 real dyed samples. Practical results were in good agreement with the theoretical results, showing a relatively better performance of the spectrophotometic color matching procedure based on the fundamental color stimulus.
