Firooz Shāh Nāme, written in the 9th century A.H., is essentially a book on love which narrates the epic events, and describes the features of brigands and fairy tales. Researchers have done their best to study these features according to the principles and literary genres proposed by Aristotle. This article reads this story from the perspective of Old Persian poetics of fiction and concludes that Old Persian folk tales constitute a different genre which originates from an ancient tradition of story-telling. The Narrator, in this genre, makes use of various literary aspects and categories.

Abu Mslim Nāme is the life-story of Abu Muslim of Khorāsān written on the basis of mythological structure of Dragon-Killer. After the assassination of Abu Muslim, Iranians, once more gave credit to conventional myths, but reevaluated them so much that they finally converted history to mythology. The present article, after a structural analysis of Abu Muslim’s life-story, examines the diverse transformations and displacements in Fereydoon Myth (The Dragon-Killer) in order to explain the reasons of these changes based on historical and psychological documents. The article concludes that these evolutions have taken place mostly under the influence of religious functions and in cases due to the effects of literary imagination.

Fitrat-e Bukhārā’i is among the leaders of The Revival Movement in Central Asia, known as Jadidan (The Modernists), which played a significant role in the formation of Tājiki’s modern prose. His novel, “The Debate Between a Teacher from Bukhārā and a European”, due to its dialogic structure, can be considered as the first step of Persian play-writing in the region,. This article, following the model of “Dramatic capacities of the Dialogic Prose Debate”, has studied “The Debate” in five dimensions of “tone and dramatic language, characterization in dialogue, dialogic dramatic act, conflict, setting”. The results demonstrate that the dialogic structure of the novel is very close to dramatic structure, and all the Persian prose debates can be analyzed by this model.

In the 2nd and 3rd centuries A.H., some intellectuals came to the scene who, because of the integrating of wisdom and madness in their words and actions, were called intelligent fools. This outward madness was an occasion for exceptional freedom, in a way that these apparently insanes went beyond the conventional and sacred concepts of their Time to propose different ways of interrelation between God/Human, Man/Society, and Man/Power institutions. The present article studies these interrelations through reading some tales of Attār, and is concerned with the following issues: Typology of Intelligent Fools and determination of madness as a resort for intellectuals; analysis of the socio-political functions of Intelligent Fools based on Bakhtin’s ideas; demonstration of the similarities between Intelligent fools in Islamic culture (Mathnavis of Attār) and Christian culture (Ideas of Erasmus).

The effect of Romantic outlook of Iranian Contemporary poets has been influential on the type and scope of dealing with mythology. The poets, through mythopoeia and mythoclasting have promoted the revolutionary and evolutionary spirit of the people. This paper, following the method of content analysis, studies the mythological interests of Ahmad Shāmloo, and concludes that shāmloo evolves the original versions of myths, and even introduces some myths of his own, in order to make a better use of their social capacities. Shāmloo’s reforms can be justified by the features of Romanticism which in its turn is a good explanation of some aspects of his poems.

One of the remarkable findings of mythological theories is discovering applicable contexts for comparing mythic/non-mythic characters. Joseph Campbell’s model of “Hero’s Journey” is the one to be applied to the modern literary and cinematic characters. The present article, through taking benefit of this model, tries to analyze the two characters of Veis-o-Rāmin. The goal of this research is introducing the model of “Hero’s journey” from one side, and opening a new window to Veis-o-Rāmin from the other side. The body of the paper, by focusing on “The External Journey” (Destiny) and “The Internal Journey” (Love), concludes that while the story emphasizes more on the function of internal journey, it considers Veis as the protagonist.

This article aims to discover and describe the major properties of Right Node Raising (RNR) in Persian regarding the related literature on RNR in other languages. Persian RNR properties distinguish it from other constructions. The occurrence of RNR pivot at the rightmost edge of the coordinate structure, non-constituents as RNR target, possibility of RNR regardless of the kind of conjunctions, possibility of separating the complement of wh-words from wh-words, and impossibility of preposition stranding (P-stranding) in RNR, agreement between verb and only the subject of the second conjunct in some cases, and agreement between verb and the subject of both conjuncts in some others, contrastive relationship between the constituent before RNR target in the first conjunct and the corresponding element in the second one, the existence of pause before the ellipsis site, and insensitivity of RNR to some islands, are among these properties. Some of these properties show that RNR is not the result of movement.
