Introduction: Infant less than five years mortality is one of developing health index in countries. In recent years under five years mortality rates has been decreased in our country but still is higher than the developed countries. Thus we prompted to investigate some causes in infant under 1-59 month mortality during 2006.Methods: This is a descriptive study which conducted during 2006.In this study 93 cases were selected using census sampling. Data collected by Infant mortality registering checklists that confirmed by Health and treatment service ministry of Iran. These checklists filled by educated critics’ personnel. Researcher et al exploited data by analysis in registered checklists then converted data to digital form and analyzed by SPSS software. Results: Finding showed that 93 deaths occurred. The most frequency of them related to 1-12 months age (57%) that 37% of cases were female and 63% of them were male. Majority causes from death is collisions & accidents (27%). Mortality from respiratory diseases was 18.3 percent and gastrointestinal diseases 15.2 percent. Majority failure in treatment causes is Insensibility in parent due to treatment (76%) and insistence of parent to discharge their infant from hospital because they were so impecunious to paid treatment costs (12%).Conclusion: Our finding showed that Infant mortality rate in this city was higher than country rate which has various reasons that one of these reasons was rise in collisions rate. Thus it is essential to perform implementations to reduce collisions rate as well as it essential to perform effective implementation for maternal and newborn care, infant and newborn nutrition's, vaccination, control and management of diseases such as diarrhea and pneumonia. For neglects in treatment educational planning must be proposed.

Introduction: The quality of life (QOL) is an important indicator in management of the patients with diabetes Mellitus. The assessment of the QOL in patients with diabetes has been ignored in the kashan city. This investigation is performed in order to study the QOL and other associated factors in diabetes in Kashan diabetes center in 2006.Methods: In a cross-sectional study the three dimensions of QOL (general, health related and total) were evaluated among the random selection of 310 patients with diabetes referring to Kashan Diabetes Ceneter in 2006. A standard questionnaire was employed for this study. The relationship between QOL and other variables were analysed by SPSS 16 using T student, pearson, chi 2 and regression statistical methods. Results: The 66.1% of the patients had low Total QOL. The health related QOL was low in 73.9% patients while the general QOL was low in 51.6% of patients. Only 11.3% of patients had high Total QOL. Insulin therapy, the kidney disease and hypertension had adverse affect in Total QOL (P>0.005). The kind of diabetes, BMI, age and marital status had no significant relationship with QOL.Conclusion: The QOL in all dimensions was low in majority of patients. To improve the QOL in the patients, the management of the patients should focus on decreasing the complications of diabetes.

Introduction: Lower limb varicose Veins commonly occurs in the general population. The physical conditions during the work and conditions of employment are important risk factors that induced prevalence varicose veins are increased. For instance prolong standing posture and physical state is irreversible in the nursing profession. Thus the purpose of the present study was to determine the Prevalence and relationship work factors and demographic with lower limb varicose veins in Nurses. Methods: In the cross-sectional study was carried out in the 203 nurses in Amol hospital. It was done with the content of the subjects. After filling out the questionnaires by the subjects, they were examined based on CEAP classification system. The gather information was done by the use of Chi-Square, exact fisher & independent sample T test. A probably level of P<0.05 was accepted as statistically significant. Results: 145 nurses were female & age average was 34.2 years; 40.9 of them were over weighted. Prevalence of Varicose vein was 73.9%. There was a significant relationship between varicose vein & female gender (P=0.03), exercise (P=0.001), BMI (P=0.003), family history (P=0.01), regular bowel movement (P=0.005), age (P=0.04), weight (P<0.0001), over time work (P=0.001), sitting (P=0.01) & standing posture at workplace (P=0.001).Conclusion: Our results show a high prevalence varicose vein of the lower limbs in the nurses of Amol hospital. This disorder causes the physical problems & excess morbidity & it can affected on professional nurses’ practices, so risk factor control & preventing of these factors are important.

Abstract:

Introduction: Workplace violence is the part of workplace hazards. When nursing students in a practice setting encounter horizontal violence, their approach to practice, as well as their intent to become a nurse, can be influenced. The aim of this study was to determine the rate of violence during clinical training among nursing students. Methods: In this descriptive study, all of nursing students (82) that have inclusion criteria were entered into study. Data were collected with questionnaire and analyzed with SPSS v.11.Results: Of the total studied subjects, 18.3% reported physical attack, 9.8% physical threat and 23.2% verbal abuse in the previous 12-months period. Most of physical attacks were caused by patients (33.3%) and their relatives (33.3%), physical threat by nurses (16.6%) and verbal abuse by nurses (28.5%) and patient's relatives (25%). Most of violence was in internal, surgery, pediatric and dialysis wards. There is no significant difference between sex and different years with violence (P>0.05).Conclusion: Nursing students are at great risk for violence due to little age and inadequate experience. Therefore planning educational programs about violence, prevention, supporting and consulting after violence are necessary.

Introduction: Annual checkups are one of the ways for getting healthy lifestyle, but it seems that most people are not aware of them or they don’t want to do them. Since nurses are most responsible for teaching, coordinating and supporting this matter and because researches have shown that women are more worried about their health status, therefore it was decided to investigate the knowledge and practice of female nurses relating to annual checkups. Methods: In this descriptive research, knowledge and practice of 402 female nurses who worked at some Esfahan hospitals with researcher prepared questionnaire and checklist were investigated and findings by SPSS (ver=15) software and descriptive, correlative statistics, ANOVA, Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney-U tests were analyzed. Results: Findings of this research showed that 69.4% of female nurses had poor knowledge, 27.1% had moderate knowledge and 3.5% had good knowledge and 41.5% of them had poor practice, 40.0% had moderate practice and 18.5% had good practice relating to annual checkups and there were significant correlation between age- work background and practice but there were no significant correlation between age- work background and knowledge of samples (P<0.05).Conclusion: Knowledge and practice of most nurses relating to annual checkups is poor and because this group must be one of the main educators, coordinators and supporters of this matter, therefore the annual teaching must be considered for them and for improving the practice of these checkups, useful ways should be introduced.

Abstract:

Introduction: The Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS) is one of the most widely used scales for the measurement of subjective well-being. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the psychometric properties of an Iranian version of the SWLS among nurse and midwife undergraduate students. Methods: This investigation is a descriptive- analytic study. Subjects were 370 nurse undergraduate students selected randomly from Tabriz University of medical sciences. All participants were asked to complete the SWLS and Farsi version of WHOQOL-BREF.Results: Confirmatory factor analysis showed support for a one-dimensional factor structure. A one-dimensional measurement model of the SWLS was tested and received empirical support. However, the modification indices of the model suggested an alternation of the factor structure. Therefore, two-factor measurement model was tested. The two-factor model had a superior fit compared to the one-dimensional model. Furthermore, a multi-group analysis was performed to test the measurement invariance of the SWLS across sex. The results indicate that the SWLS is invariant across sex. Also, SWLS had good internal consistency (Cronbach’s a=0.85). Significant positive correlations between the scores of Satisfaction with Life Scale and the four domains of the WHOQOLBREF provided empirical support for the convergent validity of the SWLS. Sex differences were significant in SWLS; mean scores for female student were significantly more than male student. Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that the Iranian SWLS is a valid and reliable measure of life satisfaction for nurse students.
