Background: breast cancer is the most common malignant cancer result in death in women. With respect to lower age of breast cancer in Iranian patients than other countries, we investigated the tumor markers in breast cancer and age distribution of these markers. Material and Methods: our cross sectional study was done among patient whom had positive pathology report for breast cancer and had immunohistochemistry profile.245 patient were enrolled. Patient’s age, tumor markers and their pathology were analyzed. Results: average age of our patient was 49.47±12.50 .age range was between 20 and 86.The most common breast cancer before and after 50 years old was invasive ductal carcinoma. The most prevalent tumor marker before 50 years old was invasive ductal carcinoma .progesterone and estrogen marker the most presence of tumor marker was in age of 40 to 50. (P=0.033, P=0.031).Conclusion: being younger patient is an alarm signal and need more attention. It is more critical when we know that more than 50 percent of patient were in age of 50 and less .new point of view of this study was different distribution of tumor marker that differ from foreign study.

Abstract:

Background: Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers in the women. Survival of breast cancer patients is long and thus they are involved more time with cancer, complications and consequences. This study examines the symptoms by treatment type and patient characteristics in a sample of newly diagnosed breast cancer patients.Material and Methods: This survey is a cross-sectional study. Among patients in the Medical Center Seyed Al Shohada Esfahan, a group of breast cancer patients from beginning to end of October-December in 2006 was selected and conducted telephone surveys among participants three months. Results provided in frequency distribution tables and chi square with significance level 0.05 to evaluate the relationship and the deference was used. Results: after completing interviews of 152 breast cancer patients, almost half (48%) had at least one severe symptom (any of the following: nausea/vomiting, arm problems, hot flashes, vaginal dryness, difficulty sleeping) that interfered with her daily functioning or mood. Results showed that older, widowed or never married, and working women were less likely to report severe symptoms than other women. Numbers of receipt of chemotherapy were positively associated with reporting symptoms. Conclusion: These findings estimate the prevalence of several mutable symptoms in breast cancer patients that can be addressed by appropriate treatments. This survey estimate of the probability of symptoms in women with incident breast cancer can be used to provide patient education about potential outcomes following the treatment of breast cancer. With regard to the characteristics of patients with breast cancer that may need to have a special care, and predict health status of patients after treatment, some programs can be planned to promote quality health care for women suffering from multiple symptoms.

Abstract:

Background: Breast cancer is one of the chronic diseases which due to its symptoms and side effects, originating from local and systematic treatments such as surgery and chemotherapy, could affect the afflicted women’s quality of life. The side-effects of this illness leads to reduction of the quality of care which they provide for themselves,   and consequently due to the important role that they have within the family unit, their disease affects the overall quality of their families’ life. Moreover, these side-effects can affect the roles and function which each member of the family has within the family unit Thus to improve the quality of these patients’ lives, not only an awareness associated with their quality of life, but also the influential factors on the family unit must be considered. Therefore, the present study has been conducted to determine the effects of family counseling on the quality of life of the breast cancer patients who are undergoing chemotherapy.Material and Methods: This study is a quasi-experimental study. The test subjects were selected from among the breast cancer patients who are undergoing chemotherapy in different clinics in Qazvin. These test subjects were placed in two different groups of test and control. The subjects in the test group attended eight counseling session which was conducted by a family counselor. During these counseling sessions, the patients’ spouses and children were also present. In both the test and control groups, the patients’ quality of life markers were measured both at the beginning and end of the counseling sessions, and the data was analyzed using the Spss 15 statistical software. Results: The result of the studies showed that the family counseling lead to reduction of the side-effects of chemotherapy such as fatigue, vomiting and nausea, pain, painful breathing, sleep disorder, lack of appetite, constipation, diarrhea and financial problems. Moreover, these counseling sessions showed to have a reducing effect on the symptoms and other breast cancer and chemotherapy related side-effects such as worrying about the hair-loss and breast and arms related symptoms (P<0.05).Conclusion: considering the results of the present study which is clearly shows the effect and the role of the family members of the breast cancer patients on reduction of the symptoms and side-effects of the cancer and chemotherapy in them, it is recommended that a special attention is needed to be paid to the role of the family in the clinical and other related treatments when dealing with the ladies who have breast cancer and are undergoing chemotherapy.

Background: Breast cancer is the most common kind of cancer and the second of cause of death among women. Breast self examination (BSE) is one of the lowest cost screening tests that perform by women. The purpose of this study was of the knowledge and practice of breast self- examination (BSE.) among women referred to a medical-health centers in sabzevar-Iran.Material and Methods: This is a descriptive – analytic study that was done in 2010-2011 and 364 women were participated 20 years. The sampling method was randomized-cluster. Data were collected by using a self administered questionnaire which included demographic characteristics and the knowledge and practice then data analyzed by using SPSS software. Results: The result showed 35% of women have knowledge from breast cancer sign and recognition methods. The subjects' mean age was 33.45 (SD=10.0) years old and BMI 25.79 (SD=4.3). This study showed that the overall rate of literacy and knowledge has a significant relationship (p=0.02), but no significant relation was found between the socio-demographic factors and BSE knowledge. About 44.8% of them performed breast self examination after menses period termination monthly. Frequency of self-exam does not have any relationship with knowledge (0.06). The result showed that age has a significant relationship with awareness (p= 0.03), But no significant relationship with job, marriage and husband job. Conclusion: This study shows the knowledge and practice of breast self-exam is very poor among enrolled woman. Studies like these can enhance the knowledge regarding BSE among women. Therefore, BSE training programs that emphasize self-exam is recommended.

Abstract:

Background: The strategy of using estrogen suppression to treat breast cancer led to the development of aromatase inhibitors, including the third-generation nonsteroidal compounds anastrozole and letrozole, and the steroidal compound exemestane.Material and Methods: Aromatase inhibitors potently inhibit aromatase activity and also suppress estrogen levels in plasma and tissue. In clinical studies in postmenopausal women with breast cancer, third-generation aromatase inhibitors were shown superior to tamoxifen for the treatment of metastatic disease. Studies of adjuvant therapy with aromatase inhibitors include (i) head-to-head studies of 5 years of the aromatase inhibitor versus 5 years of tamoxifen monotherapy; (ii) sequential therapy of 2–3 years of tamoxifen followed by an aromatase inhibitor (or the opposite sequence) versus 5 years of tamoxifen onotherapy; (iii) extended therapy with an aromatase inhibitor after 5 years of tamoxifen; and (iv) sequential therapy with an aromatase inhibitor versus aromatase inhibitor monotherapy. Results and Conclusion: Recent results from the Arimidex, Tamoxifen, Alone or in Combination and Breast International Group 1-98 trials advocate using an aromatase inhibitor upfront. This article examines the clinical data with aromatase inhibitors, following a brief summary of their pharmacology.
