To assess heat stress and thermal comfort conditions in seven southern coastal and insular cities of the country including Abadan, Boushehr, Bandar Abbas, Bandar Lengeh, Chabahar, Jask, and Kish, we used Heat Index (HI) method on synoptic hours, monthly, and annual basis for 30 -year period 1976-2005 in these cities. Our results showed no thermal stress for Abadan and Boushehr in January, February, and December, and for Bandar Abbas in January. For two selected months of February and August, we found lowest and highest Heat Index for the former month in Abadan and Chabahar respectively and for the latter month in Chabahar and Bandar Lengeh respectively.Furthermore, based on annual averages of Heat Index in under study seven cities, Abadan has lowest Heat Index and Bandar Lengeh and Jask have highest Heat Index and in cases with human prolonged exposure and/or physical activity they arecategorized as extreme caution and danger respectively.
