Abstract:

Introduction: The attitude of chronic patients towards the present time and future is one of the important factors in their loyalty to remedial diets. The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between Expectationism and Self-Care Behaviors in Type II Diabetes Patients.Method: This is a descriptive cross-sectional study in which convenient sampling is used to investigate expectationism and self-care behavior among 214 type II diabetics (30-55 years old) in Isfahan Glands and Metabolism Research Center. The "Time Horizon Questionnaire" and "self-care Inventory" were used. The data was analyzed by estimating correlation coefficient, multivariate regression and analysis of variance. Results: The results show an increase in self-care behaviors when patients more attention to future and planning for the future. (r=.67, r=.60, sig=0). There was a negative and significant correlation between perceived value of the present time and loyalty to self-care behaviors (r=-.43, sig=0). Findings also indicate that there was a positive relationship between age and loyalty to self-care behaviors. However, no correlation was observed between gender, education, duration of the disease and loyalty to self-care behaviors. Conclusion: Perceived value of the present time and future can affect type II diabetes patients' loyalty to self-care behaviors.

Abstract:

The major aim of this research was the study of psychometric properties of the "Four System Anxiety Questionnaire" (FSAQ). To this end, FSAQ was administered primarily to 153 subjects after preparation. Afterwards, two groups of clinical and non-clinical subjects were studied. The non-clinical subjects comprised of 530 Gilan University students (265= males; 264= females and one non-identified), while 39 subjects with anxiety disorders were studied as clinical subjects. In addition to providing the descriptive analysis related to gender and faculty, statistical methods such as test-retest, split-half and CronbachAlfa, was used to determine the reliability of the questionnaire. The results confirmed the reliability of questionnaire and its factors. Further more, the "Cattle Anxiety Scale", "Beck Anxiety Questionnaire", "Spilberger State-Trait Anxiety Inventory'', "MMPI (A)", and "General Health Questionnaire" (GHQ-28) were used to approve of the validity of the questionnaire via the correlation between the questionnaire and other tests was determined. The results showed the convergent validity of the questionnaire. On the other hand, the comparison of the two clinical (persons with anxiety disorders) and nonclinical groups, showed the significant difference of the data and, therefore the diagnostic validity of the questionnaire was verified.

Abstract:

Since work–family conflict is a major problem in the society, the diagnosis of the predictor factors and its relationship with other factors are of great importance. The statistical population of this study was 352 personnel of an industrial company in Ahwaz. The data were collected from 100 personnel who were randomly selected and responded to the job satisfaction (20), work-family conflict (5), interpersonal justice (16) and workload Questionnaires (33). The reliability of the questionnaires were 0.86, 0.83, 0.81 and 0.79, respectively. In order to analyze the data, stepwise regression was applied. The results indicated that interpersonal justice, satisfaction and workload can significantly predict the criterion.

Abstract:

This paper investigates the relationship between religious beliefs and emotional intelligence in male high school students. The sample consisted of 110 male students studying in Karaj high schools. The subjects were selected through cluster sampling "Observing Religious Tasks and Obligations" and "Brad berry & Greaves Emotional Intelligence Appraisal" inventories were used to collect the data. The results indicated that there is a positive significant relationship between religious beliefs and EQ (p<0.01). Moreover, religious factors can predict 23.3% of the variance of EQ (p<0.025). Thus, it seems that moral and religious teachings may help the students recognize and control their emotions in order to have a better life. Finally, the implications of these findings are discussed.

Abstract:

The purpose of this study was the comparison of the gender differences with regard to domestic violence’s and marital intimacy. Moreover, different aspects and dimensions of violence such as the experience of violence in childhood and couples' intimacy were also studied. The statistical population was the total married college students in three universities of Iran. Four hundred and thirty two married college students were randomly selected from this population. Three following questionnaires were used: a) Marital Intimacy Questionnaire (Persian version); b) Aggression Questionnaire Persian version; c) General Demographic Questionnaire. The data were analyzed using t.test; Pearson’s correlation coefficient and multiple regression. Results indicate that there are no significant gender differences in the total score of intimacy and its other dimensions. Although gender intimacy patterns are similar, significant differences between couples with respect to total score of physical and sexual violences are observed. However, it was revealed that the differences between married couples with regard to economic violence and the experience of violence in childhood were not significant. The results also indicate that there is a significant negative correlation between intimacy and violence. Violence, in general and the experience of violence in childhood, in particular, are the strongest predictors of intimacy. Finally, with regard to different theories of psychology the results have been discussed.

Abstract:

The purpose of this study was comparing the stress of breast cancer patients to that of healthy women. A sample of 65 breast cancer patients were selected from "Imam-Khomeini Cancer Institute" (from summer to autumn of 2008). They were chosen from the available patients who were diagnosed with cancer for less than two months. Variables such as marital status, economic status, age and education were taken into consideration in both the experimental and the control groups. Pickle's "life event" questionnaire (1971) was used to assess the stress in those groups. The data were analyzed using t-test. The results suggest that the stress in breast cancer patients is significantly higher than others. Moreover, women who bereaved the loss of a relative, had unwanted pregnancy or experienced divorce had more stress.

Abstract:

The present study aims at investigating the relationship between personality characteristics and marital satisfaction. The statistical population were married individuals in the first and fourth regions in Tabriz, among whom 160 (80 males & 80 females) were selected through cluster sampling. Data were collected through "Marriage Satisfaction Questionnaire (47 statements) and "Personality of NEO-FFI" (60 statements). The correlation coefficient of Pierson was computed and then regression analysis was performed. The results indicated that there is a significant relationship between personality characteristics and marital satisfaction. Among the different aspects of personality, "Neuroticism" and "Openness" contributed to the prediction of marital satisfaction, respectively.
