Abstract:

Background: Trace elements deficiencies in trauma patients admitted to intensive care unit (ICU) affects the duration of mechanical ventilation, length of stay in ICU, and patients' mortality rate. This study was conducted to investigate the effect of Trace elements on therapeutic and healthcare outcomes of ventilated trauma patients admitted to ICUs in 2019. Methods: In this clinical trial, 60 trauma patients admitted to the ICUs in Golestan hospital in Ahwaz City, Iran, were randomly assigned to intervention and control groups according to the inclusion criteria. The intervention group received Addamel injections for 5 days, whereas the control group received only the routine care. Patients’ levels of consciousness and ability to move were assessed in both groups when entering the ward and then one, three and five days after the study began. In addition, the durations of weaning from mechanical ventilation and mortality in patients were calculated in a 28-day interval. Result: There was a significant difference between the intervention and control groups in terms of length of stay in ICU (P = 0. 007) and duration of connection to ventilator (P = 0. 010). Nevertheless, there was no statistically significant difference between the mean motor ability (P = 0. 512) and the level of consciousness (P = 0. 512) between the intervention and control groups. Conclusion: According to the findings of our study, the medical staff are recommended to pay particular attention to the importance of trace elements in their therapeutic strategies for trauma patients.

Abstract:

Background: Dissatisfaction with one's body image can cause problems such as eating disorders. The highest frequency of unhealthy nutritional behaviors and body image disorders is observed in university students. These disorders are life-threatening and difficult to diagnose. Methods: This project was a descriptive-analytical cross-sectional study on girl students in Tehran City, Iran. To assess the symptoms of eating disorders, the adapted form of Eating Attitudes Test-26 (EAT26) questionnaire was used, and to assess people's attitudes towards their appearance affected by cultural and social factors, the adapted form of the Socio-Cultural Attitudes towards Appearance-3 (SATA3) questionnaire was used. By a questionnaire, demographic information was measured, and students' weight and height were recorded. Findings: The mean scores of EAT26 and SATA3 were as 10. 45 ± 8. 3 and 92. 3 ± 19. 3, respectively. There was a significant relationship between SATA3 and EAT26 questionnaires scores (P < 0. 050), and for each unit of SATA score increase, EAT26 score increased by 0. 161. Increased body mass index was directly related to dissatisfaction with body image. There was also a significant relationship between the duration time of using social media with dissatisfaction with body image and eating disorders. Conclusion: In this study, a significant relationship was observed between socio-cultural attitudes about body image and eating disorders among girl students in Tehran City. Therefore, educational measures to increase students' awareness can help to prevent these disorders and increase their health.

Abstract:

Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are commonly used for the treatment of different inflammatory disorders, and shown to have many side effects for patients. G2013 or α-L-guluronic acid is a new NSAID candidate made from alginate in the pathobiology department of Tehran University of Medical Sciences, Iran, and it has been proven to be safe. G2013 anti-inflammatory, immunosuppressive, and immunomodulatory effects have been reported in previous studies. In many studies, it has been shown that this drug candidate has good potential for treatment of different diseases, and is going through clinical phases. In this review article, first, toxicity and anti-inflammatory effects of G2013 is mentioned, and then its effects on the treatment of oxidative stress, and diseases including rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, ankylosing spondylitis, and breast cancer is also reviewed.
