Abstract:

Identifying factors behind sexual disorders is of paramount importance. Knowing how these variables work and impinge on each other can improve the quality of couple's sexual life, and reduce the psychological and sociological costs of prevention and treatment of sexual disorders. The present study aimed to examine the mediating role of emotion regulation difficulties and their impact on the relationship between attachment pathologies and sexual disorders. A total of 450 individuals with sexual disorders (227 females, 223 males) participated in this study. Participants completed the Adult Attachment Inventory (AAI), Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale (DERS), and Golombok-Rust Inventory of Sexual Satisfaction (GRISS). The results indicated that attachment pathologies had a significantly positive association with sexual disorders and emotion regulation difficulties. Emotion regulation difficulties also showed a significantly positive association with sexual disorders. The results of path analysis reveald that the relationship between attachment pathologies and sexual disorders was mediated by difficulties in emotion regulation. Based on the results of the present study the impact of secure attachment on both emotion regulation mechanisms and sexual functioning was approved. Using the findings of the present study to prevent sexual disorders as well as treatment of couples, sexual disorders in couples can be considered as practical implications of the study.

Abstract:

Emotional divorce, as an essential factor in extramarital relations and legal divorce, is influenced by different variables such as psychological basic needs, marital expectations and family function. This study was carried out to provide a model for predicting emotional divorce based on psychological basic needs, marital expectations and family functioning. 248 married women (age 25-50) were selected from the participants in family training programs in Abhar. They completed the Basic Needs Satisfaction in General Scale (BNSG-S), the Family Assessment Device (FAD), the Marital Expectations Questionnaire (MEQ) and the Emotional Divorce Questionnaire (EDQ). The results showed negative correlations between psychological basic needs and marital expectations and emotional divorce as well as positive correlations between family function and emotional divorce. Also, psychological basic needs and family function were significantly correlated. Results of path analysis showed that psychological basic needs could affect emotional divorce indirectly through family function. Marital expectations exerted both a direct and an indirect effect, through family functionon emotional divorce. It was also shown that family function had an impact on emotional divorce. The findings suggest that the relations between psychological basic needs, marital expectations and emotional divorce are not linear and family function could play a moderating role in these relations.

Abstract:

Increasing the age of marriage may cause major damages to unmarried young people, especially girls, their families and the society. Economic, social, and cultural factors have changed the marriage pattern in societies. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effectiveness of an integrated approach of Acceptance Commitment Therapy(ACT) and Olson's preparation approach in enhancing marriage expectations and responsibility in unmarried girls. This study was experimental with pretest-posttest and control group. 40 unmarried girls in Tehran participated in the research and were randomly assigned to experimental and control groups. The experimental group received eight 120-minute sessions of training based on an integrated approach of (ACT) and Olson's. Marriage expectation was measured by the Marriage Expectation Scale (MES) and responsibility by the California Psychological Inventory (CPI). Results showed that the integrated approach was effective in reducing pessimistic and idealistic marriage expectations. They also revealed that the integrated approach had been effective in increasing the realistic expectations of marriage and the responsibility of the girls. It is suggested that this approach be used by marriage counselors and family therapists as an interventional procedure.

Abstract:

situations in which spouses’ interests and needs are different are unavoidable. Yet, the ability to manage differences constructively assists couples establish intimate relationships. In an Islamic culture, tolerance is defined as the best way of dealing with differences in human relationships. The current research aimed to predict marital intimacy based on an Islamic model in spouses’ relations. A total of 240 married couples (118 women and 122 men) participated in the study and filled out the Tolerance in Spouses` Relationships Scale (TSRS) and the Intimacy Scale (IS). The results of the research showed significantly positive correlations among the four components of tolerance (spouse`s empathy and acceptance, emotional control and patience, facilitation of spouse's growth and actuation process, and beneficence and forgiveness toward spouse), its total score and marital intimacy. Also, the results revealed that spouse`s empathy and acceptance as well as the beneficence and forgiveness toward spouse could predict marital intimacy more than other components. The remaining variables, emotional control and patience, and facilitation of spouse`s growth and actualization process were excluded from the regression model because of overlapping with other predictor variables. According to the results of the research, one can conclude that tolerance with an Islamic approach plays a determining role in predicting marital intimacy. The findings of the present research can be used by specialists and family therapists.
