Background and aim: Today, the extraction of scientometric indicators has been widely used in prediction of the scientific status of researchers, organizations and countries in various national and international fields. The aim of this study was to determine the participation in the production of science and partnership pattern of researchers in Hamedan University of Medical Sciences based on the databases of Web of Science (WoS), Scopus and Google Scholar.Material and methods: This applied and scientometric study was conducted on 100 top researchers of ISI in terms of the number of articles in 2014. The number of articles, citations and h-index were extracted from WoS, Scopus and Google Scholar from 2012 to 2014. Data were analyzed using SPSS, Stata and R.Findings: The number of publications and citations has increased over three years in three databases. The correlation between the number of publications in Google Scholar and the number of citations in WoS and Scopus was weak but significant. Negative binomial regression model indicated that the number of publications would be enhanced 7% in WoS and Scopus through the increase of one article in Google Scholar. Zero-inflation negative binomial model illustrated that odds of zero of the citation number in Scopus and WoS will be 0.66 and 0.27 times with increasing one article in Google Scholar and the citation number of Scopus and WOS is increased 2% and 3% with the increase of one article in Google Scholar, respectively. Conclusion: The results show that there is a direct and strong relationship among the number of publications, citations and h-index in three databases. Negative binomial model can be used as a proper model for the number of publications and zero-inflation negative binomial model can be applied as an appropriate model for the number of citations in WoS and Scopus, too.

Abstract:

Background and aim: The present study was conducted to determine the factors associated with the research anxiety among the faculties of knowledge and information science departments of Iranian universities.Material and methods: The study sample consisted of all full-time faculties working in the knowledge and information science departments of Iranian universities (181 individuals) in the academic year of 2013-2014. Among them, 139 participants had good cooperation in filling out the questionnaire. In this survey-analytical study, data were collected using Higgins-Kotrlik research anxiety inventory. Data were analyzed using SPSS 20.Findings: The results showed that about 63% of the respondents had high anxiety level and the remaining (37%) had the moderate level of anxiety. The results of the correlation tests revealed that two predictor variables of teaching skills and environmental factors had a negative significant relationship with the research anxiety. The results of the regression analysis indicated that the components of these two variables could explain 38% of the variance of anxiety research. Conclusion: The findings illustrated that an anxiety can negatively affect the productivity of faculty members, leading to their slow improvement. It is clear that continuing such a situation may result in scientific recession in high education system; therefore, this system cannot continue to serve effectively its performance, namely, education and research in society.

Abstract:

Background and aim: Citation analysis is one of the important ways to assess the status of utilizing references used by students in writing dissertations. The aim of this research was to study the status of references used in PhD theses of Knowledge and Information Science at Ahwaz Chamran University (2009-2015).Material and methods: The citation analysis method was used in this study, and the population was 3048 citations extracted from the references of 20 PhD dissertations at Ahwaz Shahid Chamran University. Data were analyzed using Excel.Findings: Findings showed that periodicals with 1696 citations (55.64%) had the highest rate of citation and the citation mean was 152.4 for each thesis. In addition, Latin resources were more cited than Persian resources. English language with 2050 (67.26%) citations had the highest rate of citations. The Persian and Latin references had only one author. The most cited authors, resources and half –life resources were identified. Citing scientific productions of supervisors and advisors were very low so that out of 3048 citations, only 180 (5.90%) citations were referred to the scientific productions of supervisors and advisors. Conclusion: In writing the dissertations, Latin resources were mostly used. The highly cited resources and authors can be employed in the selection of library resources, and regarding half-life as a criterion for evaluating the novelty of resources, it is concluded that new resources are not used in writing the theses by PhD students.

Abstract:

Background and aim: The aim of this study was to determine the scientific outputs of Tuberculosis and Lung Disease Research Center of Tehran and map co-authorship network in the center.Material and methods: In this scientometric study, the population included all scientific papers of Tuberculosis and Lung Disease Research Center of Tehran, indexed in Scopus. Co-authorship network was analyzed and mapped using UCINET and NetDraw.Findings: The prevalence rate of 29.28% indicated that scientific outputs have been rising trend in this Center. The network density was 0.0244. The results showed the authors with more scientific outputs have higher rank in terms of centrality index. Conclusion: Totally, co-authorship network in the studied center has poor cohesion and there is no relationship among nodes. Given the importance of medicine in public health, it is necessary to consider the increase of national and international cooperation and immediate access to the scientific outputs for researchers.

Abstract:

Background and aim: The power of a university major to the body is distinct knowledge that is not provided by another major. Researches in the form of dissertations and theses make a large part of this body. The aim of this study was to investigate these templates in order to create new knowledge in the field of sports management.Material and methods: This descriptive research was performed using content analysis. The statistical population of the research consisted of 167 dissertations and theses that have been published from 2011 to 2016. The measuring instrument was coding sheet of Ghassemi et al. and the coefficient of agreement (PSCAT) was 0.79 among the coders. Chi-square test with a significant level of 0.50 was used to compare the groups.Findings: Totally, 52.8% of the research did not mention any sports. Among the rest of the studies, 14.8% were related to football or futsal, players, coaches or management organizations. Most titles were on other majors such as management and less topics were about physical education such as the quality of the sports camp (0.6%) leisure time (0.6%) sports event (1.7%). Although marketing, sports facilities and sports events were simultaneously opened at the faculty, mixed marketing was the first variable in 10.3% of documentation and there was less tendency to the other two. Wholly, 51.7% and 46.6% of the research started with the hypothesis and question. There was a significant difference between the research subjects and the fields of sports based on the guidance of supervisors. Conclusion: In order to create the body of knowledge in sports management, in addition to common issues, the more specialized topics arising from the field of sports should be considered by the students, professors and planners of this field.

Abstract:

Background and aim: Scientometrics is a modern field of library and information science, which is used to measure the sciences quantitatively at national and international levels in order to rank the publications, universities and countries. The aim of this study was to determine the scientific outputs of faculty members in Kashan University as a sample of Iranian universities from 2012 to 2016.Material and methods: Data were collected from Scopus through scientometric method. Scientific outputs of faculty members in Kashan University were evaluated from 2012 to 2016. Data were analyzed using Excel and SPSS 20 via ANOVA and T-student tests.Findings: Results showed that the highest number of scientific outputs was original articles (89.3%) of which 85.49% were written by male researchers. Faculty members with degree of professor had the highest number of scientific outputs (41.2%). There was no significant relationship among different educational groups in terms of scientific outputs (P=0.31). Faculty members of the basic sciences (59.55%) and engineering (36.59%) had the highest scientific outputs, respectively. Conclusion: The results indicated that scientific outputs of this University have been had ascending trend during recent five years, which is an effective factor in improving and promoting the scientific status of Kashan University among national and international universities.
