Abstract:

Background and aim: The scientific journals are a valid method for communication of update information and a link among various fields of science through citation. The aim of this study was to investigate the citation of the articles of 28 issues published in Scientific and Research Journal of Oceanography (JOC). Material and methods: This study investigated the citation of 290 articles published in JOC through citation analysis during 2010-2016. The data were analyzed using Excel. Findings: Among 7512 citations of 290 published articles, the most citations belonged to journals (66. 99%) and then to books (18. 95%). Citation mean and authors' self-citation were 26. 50 and 4. 66% for each article, respectively. Collaborative contribution of men in published articles (73. 96%) was more than that of women (26. 05%). The most cited authors of Persian and English articles were Roshan Tabari and Ismail. The most cited Persian and English journals were "JOC" and "Aquaculture Nutrition", respectively. Collaboration degree of authors was 93. 45% in JOC. Latin journals had the highest half-life with 13 years and 7 months. Conclusion: Although this journal has an acceptable pattern in terms of collaboration among authors and usage of Latin resources, the high half-life of the cited references, particularly Latin journals indicates that the officials of journal must take appropriate measures for usage of up-to-date references by authors.

Abstract:

Background and aim: Today, the scientific outputs of universities are quantitatively and qualitatively measured using scientometrics on which the scientific progress of these institutions is evaluated. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the scientific outputs of agricultural colleges in State Khuzestan Universities during 1989-2008 and to assess the scientific status of these institutions. Material and methods: This descriptive-analytical survey was performed using scientometrics. A checklist, Web of Science (WoS) and research report were used to gather the data. The study population consisted of 128 faculty members working in the Faculties of Agriculture in Shahid-Chamran University, Ramin (Khuzestan) Agricultural and Natural Resources and Behbahan Natural Resources. Findings: The results of the research showed that the total scientific outputs of all three institutes were 5715 titles, and had the growing trend the studied period. The most scientific documents with 1445 titles (about 25% of the total scientific output) were produced in 2008. Pearson correlation coefficient indicated that there was a significant relationship between scientific degree, work experience and scientific outputs (p≥ 0. 000). Conclusion: The trend of scientific outputs of the studied institutions was growing. Educational groups of agronomy and plant breeding, animal sciences and plant protection had more scientific outputs than other groups.

Abstract:

Background and aim: With increasing competition in the scientific society, attention to the quality of journals has enhanced and different methods are used to evaluate the journals. Therefore, the aim of this study was to find a comprehensive view on the status of the performance of the valid journals in the field of accounting and finance in Iran by gathering different evaluation criteria. Material and methods: This evaluative study was conducted using a scientometric method. Evaluation criteria consisting 14 components were prepared based on studies performed in this field, data on various components were collected by referring to the website of the journals and databases, and finally, these data were analyzed using Excel. The statistical population was 18 and 9 accounting and financial journals, respectively. Findings: The findings showed that 66. 6% of journals were published by State universities and 33. 4% by other centers. According to the State Journal database, 3 journals were ranked A and the others B and C. No journal was ranked A+. The mean of immediacy index and impact factor were 0. 018 and 0. 253 in the accounting journals and 0. 015 and 0. 123 in the financial journals, respectively. Only one journal was indexed in 6 national and 4 international databases. Totally, 18% of the journals were indexed in 80% of these databases and the others in lower ranks. In summary, two journals of "Financial Accounting Research" and "Financial Knowledge of Securities Analysis" were ranked first in this field. Conclusion: Averagely, accounting journals have higher impact factor and cumulative citations compared with financial ones. It is necessary to pay attention to the quality of articles in financial journals and indexing in valid databases in accounting journals.

Abstract:

Background and aim: Today, the use of scientometric methods to evaluate the scientific outputs of researchers in various fields has been highly regarded and the Hirsch index (h-index) is one of the most important scientometric indices due to the simultaneous measurement of quantity and quality of scientific outputs. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the status of Iranian agricultural articles at the Scopus citation database based on the h-index. Material and methods: This applied study was performed using a scientometric method. The research population consisted of 4037 agricultural articles produced by Iranian researchers from 2010 to 2016, which were extracted from Scopus. Excel software and SPSS 16 were used to draw tables and analyze the data, respectively. Moreover, the Spearman’ s correlation coefficient and Pearson test were applied to answer the research hypotheses. Findings: In this period, 4037 agricultural articles of 157 Iranian researchers were indexed at Scopus, of which the largest was in 2011. The Advances in Environmental Biology Journal had the highest number of articles (237) and the Bioresource Technology Journal had the highest h-index (19). The results of Spearman's correlation coefficient showed that there was a significant relationship between the h-index and number of articles (P-value <0. 05). Conclusion: Iran in the agricultural field is ranked 3rd place in the Middle East and 42th in the world based on h-index. Although Iran has been able to gain stable place in production of agricultural articles, it has not been successful in the region and world in citing its articles and h-index as well as further efforts are needed in this regard.

Abstract:

Background and aim: Due to the importance of keywords in the field of research and scientometrics, the keywords used in scientific outputs of mathematics education specialists were investigated in this study to determine the scope of their research. Material and methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted on the Persian scientific papers published by mathematics education specialists who were the first author and published at least three papers for a 25-year period from 1993 to 2017. Under these conditions, 48 papers presented by eight mathematics education specialists were identified. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used to process the number and repetition of keywords. Findings: Out of 204 keywords, 10 keywords were applied 44 times repeatedly (or synonymously). The ratio of total articles to duplicate keywords was 66% and the ratio of duplicate keywords to total keywords was 22%. Linear regression test indicated a direct relationship between the number of articles and ratio of duplicate keywords. Conclusion: The high proportion of duplicate keywords suggests the subject similarity and focus of articles of mathematics education specialists in Iran.

Abstract:

Background and aim: The aim of this study was to analyze and draw up a citation network of published schizophrenia-related resources in Iran from 2012 to 2016 so that this citation network provides a guidance for researchers and acquisition in information centers by specifying the status of resources and researchers in Iran. Material and methods: The current study was conducted through citation analysis method and using social network analysis. The study population was 5303 citations extracted from the list of 180 papers published in the field of schizophrenia in Iran. NodeXL software was used to analyze and draw the citation network and Excel software was applied for statistical calculations. Findings: There are 3 components in the citation network of schizophrenia-related articles. In the largest component, there are 2395 people who have cited each other 5287 times, and the network diameter is 12. The average distance in the network is 5. 39 and the network density is less than 0. 5, indicating low density of citations. Moreover, in terms of document type, articles (78. 76%) have been cited more frequently than other resources. The most cited resource in the citation network is "Comprehensive Textbook of Psychiatry" compiled by Harold Kaplan and Benjamin James Sadock and the most cited author is Benjamin James Sadock. Conclusion: Generally, the citation network in schizophrenia is a dispersed network with a very low density in Iran, representing that the potential relationships have not been formed among authors.
