Introduction: Low back pain is one of the most frequent medical problems in the world and Iran. Back pain has an impact on Individual, professional, and socioeconomic levels, as it entails a serious economic burden. Different interventions can reduce the burden of the chronic low back pain. Back School Program is one of the interventions. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of Lumbar care (based on Back School program) on nursing Staffs’ low back pain.Method: It was a quasi-experimental study that 64 nursing staff of Shohada Tajrish hospital participated in this study. They were selected purposefully and then randomly assigned to intervention and control group equally (32 nurses in each group). Data about severity of pain was collected by Visual Analogue Scale (VAS). Intervention group was received Lumbar care based on Back school program for four 45-minutes sessions during an educational workshop and training were followed by pamphlets, but control group only received routine care. Mean score of low back pain were measured based on VAS before and after the intervention. Analysis of data was carried out by SPSS software. Results: Findings of this study indicated there is no significant difference between mean Low back pain scores between intervention and control groups before intervention (p=0.575). While after the intervention, significant difference was observed between mean Low back pain scores (p<0.001) and low back pain in the intervention group significantly was reduced. Conclusion: The results showed that applying lumbar care based on Back school program, significantly decreased Low back pain in the intervention group. It suggested that hospital administrators could use this program as a safe method in the nurses’ education with low back pain.

Abstract:

Introduction: Local cooling as an effective, simple and immediate method is often frequently used to treat minor acute musculoskeletal injuries and pain relief. Although existing some controversy, numerous studies suggest that cooling methods cause a decrease in joint position sense, which may lead to a higher risk of injury. The aim of present study was to compare the immediate and long-time effect of two different types of local cooling on knee joint position sense.Method: This study was quasi experimental and interventional research.15 able-bodied males ranged between 23-26 years old were selected by accessible sampling method. The knee joint position sense was measured by an electrogoniometer immediately and after 20 minutes of cooling by crushed ice bag and cold spray through 30 degrees' flexion reconstruction. Data was analyzed employing ANOVA with repeated measures using SPSS v23 software. Results: The absolute error of 30o knee flexion angle reconstruction, immediately after types of cooling was significantly higher than before cooling protocol (P=0.001). The absolute error of reconstruction in both spray and longtime ice-bag application were significantly higher than before cooling protocol (P<0.05).Conclusion: Results of this study demonstrate the negative effects of two different local cooling methods on knee joint position sense. It seems that the loss of Knee proprioception can lead to mechanical instability and ultimately increase risk of joint damage.

Introduction: Depression is a chronic and prevalent disorder among elders. Restless Legs Syndrome (RLS) is one of the possible risk factors for depression. This study aimed to investigate association between RLS and depression in elderly.Method: From April to May in 2014, a total of 350 home residential elderly were included to this case-control study using cluster sampling method. All cases were divided into two groups (depressed and non- depressed) using Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS) and they were matched in age, gender, education and body mass index (BMI). Screening questionnaire to identify intensity of RLS was used. Data were analyzed using SPSS 18 software, descriptive statistics, Mann-Whitney u, Chi-square test and Fisher's exact test when appropriate. P value<0.05 was considered as statically significant. Results: 37 cases (21.1%) of depressed people and 13 (7.4%) of not-depressed people had RLS. There was a significant association between RLS and depression in elderly (p=0.001). The odds ratio for RLS in depressed people was 3.34 times compared to not-depressed people (p-value=0.001, OR=3.34, CI 95%=1.71-6.53). Also RLS was significantly more prevalent in women than men (p=0.004).Conclusion: There are association between RLS and depression in elderly patients. Given the high prevalence of RLS in elders and its association with depression, implementation of screening methods in order to identify RLS in elders and conducting depression prevention measures seems to be necessary.

Introduction: Diabetes is a metabolic disease that its prevalence is increasing day by day. Diabetes patients are encounter with endothelial dysfunction. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of aerobic interval training on flow- mediated dilation endothelial brachial, nitrite/ nitrate (NOx) and secondary outcome in type 2 diabetes patients.Method: In this quasi-experimental study, thirty diabetic patients referred to diabetes and metabolic centers of Tehran recruited in the summer of 1393.All the subjects had type 2 diabetes and well controlled hypertension. They divided into two equal intervention and control groups. Training program underwent 3 session in week for 3 month. The biochemical parameter of glucose, total cholesterol, triglyceride and HDL, HbA1c, insulin and NOx was measured. The effect of training intervention was analyzed with two way- ANOVA by SPSS 18 version. Results: Exercise training caused a significant increase in VO2 peak (P<0.005), NOx (P<0.004), while significantly reduced glucose level (P<0.023). However, ten weeks of interval training had not any significant effects on Flow Mediated Dilation (P<0.189).Conclusion: Arobic interval training is an appropriate intervention for development of physical fitness factors in type 2 diabetes patients. However, this exercise training can’t improve FMD index. It seemed that duration of exercise training was more than the initial adjustment phase is functional, and which entry to structural adaptation.
