The purposes of this study are as follows1. To determine demographic characteristics in the case and controlgroups.2.To determine health behaviors in the case and controlgroups.3. To determine diet habits in the case and control groups.4.To determine the correlation between health behaviors and diet habit with stroke morbidity.
This research is a case -control study which was carried out to examine the relationship between health behaviors and diet habits with stroke morbidity in the years of 1997-1998.The sample population consisted of 80 patients with stroke in the case group and 160 patients without stroke in the control group. The following variables were matched in the two groups: age, sex and education. Data collection was done and a questionnaire was developed by the researchers consisting of three parts. The first part included 7 questions on the subjects demographic data, the second consisted of 14 questions about health behaviors and the third one consisted of 23 questions on diet habits.
The data was shown in 46 tables and gathered data was analyzed through descriptive and analytic statistics. Findings suggested that the mean age of the subjects was 63.6 years. The majority of subjects were women and married .The history of hypertension and diabetes was cited by the majority of subjects(40 percent).
The correlation between health behaviors and habits with stroke morbidity was significantly Meaningful by t-test (P<0.001). At the end of this study the practical aspects of this survey Findings in various fields of nursing are listed.
