Abstract:

Introduction: The purpose of this study was to investigate the cancer coping and its relationship with symptom management self-efficacy, perceived social support, uncertainty about life, and life orientation in Iranian breast cancer female survivors. Methods: This study was carried out through a descriptive-analytical cross-sectional method. The data were collected from 150 breast cancer survivors referred to educational and therapeutic centers in Urmia. The tools used to collect data were demographic characteristic questionnaire, cancer coping questionnaire, symptom management self-efficacy scale for breast cancer related to chemotherapy, Mishel uncertainty scale in illness, life orientation test perceived social support questionnaires during 2016. Data was analyzed using SPSS 20 and descriptive-analytical statistical tests. Results: The symptom management self-efficacy, optimistic life orientation and perceived social support all correlated positively with cancer coping in women with breastcancer. Significant Negative correlation was identified between uncertainty and cancer coping (Significant at the 0. 01 level (. ). Results of stepwise multiple regression analysis demonstrated that 0. 517% of the variance in cancer coping was elucidated by an integration of four predictors: perceived social support, symptom management self-efficacy, optimistic life orientation, and uncertainty. Conclusion: The results of the study clarified that perceived social support, symptom management self-efficacy, uncertainty and optimistic life orientation have relationship with cancer coping among Iranian breast cancer female survivors. Thus, these variables should be taken into account while designing plans to promote cancer coping.

Abstract:

Introduction: Practicing health promotion behaviours is one of the best ways to maintain health. Modification of health promoting behaviors is essential for students and peer education can be an effective way. Therefore, the present study was conducted to evaluate the effect of peer education on nursing students’ health promoting behaviors. Methods: In this quasi-experimental study, 80 nursing and midwifery students were selected by covenience sampling method in 2016-2017. Data gathering tool was Pender Health Promotion Standard Questionnaire. Before education, health promoting behaviors were examined. Then, the first and second semester nursing students were educated in a 4 sessions (each session was 1. 5-hour), with lecture and peer education methods, respectively. Two months after education, post-test was done. The data was analyzed using statistical test by SPSS 16 Results: There were no significant differences between the two groups in terms of the mean score of health promotion behaviors (P=0. 29) and their related dimensions including spiritual growth (P=0. 776), responsibility (P=0. 44), interpersonal relationships (P=0. 556), stress management (P=0. 238), exercise (P=0. 704), and nutrition (P=0. 06) before education. However, after education, the mean score of health promotion behaviors and their dimensions in the lecture group had a statistically significant increase compared to that of peer education group (P <0. 001). Conclusion: The effectiveness of health promoting behaviors education in lecture group was more than peer group.

Abstract:

Introduction: Patient’ s rights are the communication rules between patients, health staff, and health services. There are concerns regarding observing the patient’ s rights including privacy and informed consent on the part of medical personnel. Therefore, the present study was conducted with the aim to compare electronic and workshop education on knowledge of nursing students about patients’ rights. Method: This is a semi-experimental study with two groups. 60 nursing students were chosen through simple-random method, and were allocated to electronic and workshop education groups. Educational content about privacy and informed consent were taught to students in a four-hour workshop. The very same content on a compact disk was taught to electronic group. Before and after educational intervention, the students’ level of knowledge was assessed with questionnaires and data were analyzed with statistical-analytical tests and SPSS software. Results: The results showed that the mean level of knowledge in both groups was increased after intervention But in the workshop group it was statistically meaningful (P=0. 001). Conclusion: Nursing students’ training is a way to increase the respect for patient’ s rights. However, achieving this goal requires educational approaches to provide learning infrastructures to make the nurses ready for patients’ care taking in the future.

Abstract:

Introduction: Mechanical ventilation has been one of the most common forms of patients’ medical treatment in intensive care unit and several factors affect the preparation of patients for weaning the mechanical ventilation. This study aimed at determining factors that have an impact on the duration of mechanical ventilation weaning. Methods: In this sectional-analytical study, 65 ICU patients who required mechanical ventilation for more than 72 hours were selected by convenience sampling. Patients with Burns Wean Assessment Program tools were studied in three shifts. Patient’ s age, sex, the reason for connecting them to mechanical ventilation, the level of consciousness based on the Ramsay sedation scale, and duration of mechanical ventilation were recorded before weaning. The results were analyze through descriptive statistics and an independent t-test using SPSS 22. Results: The average duration of weaning the mechanical ventilation using Burns Wean Assessment Program was 111/75± 33/46. The results, in addition, showed that confounding factors of sex (P=0/03) and Ramsay sedation scale score (P=0/0001) had a significant effect on the duration of mechanical ventilation, but age (P=0/2) and the reason for connecting them to mechanical ventilation (P=0/319) had no significant effect on the duration of mechanical ventilation. Conclusion: To wean the mechanical ventilation from the patients, some factors such as age and the level of consciousness – also in applying measurement devises for these variables-should be considered.

Abstract:

Introduction: Job satisfaction is one of the effective factors on the quality of the nurses’ performance. Therefore, studying these main organizational variables has been considered by many researchers. This study analyzes nurses’ job satisfaction in Hamadan educational hospitals. Methods: This is an analytic-descriptive study that was performed on 304 nurses chosen via stratified random sampling of relative type in Hamadan University of medical sciences’ hospitals. Data collection tools included Spector’ s job satisfaction questionnaires, descriptive statistics (mean and standard deviation), inferential statistics, independent sample t-test, ANOVA, and Tukey post-hoc. Results: The results showed that the majority of participants 74. 3%) had moderate job satisfaction level, 1. 3% percent had high job satisfaction level and 24. 4% percent had low job satisfaction level. . Participants in areas of supervision (%51), co-workers (%51) and nature of work (%53) had high level of job satisfaction, in terms of promotion (%46/7) and communication (% 48/4) they had moderate level of job satisfaction, and regarding payment (%69/1), contingent rewards (%79/6), operating conditions (%91/4), and fringe benefits (%79/6) they had low level of job satisfaction. There was a significant statistical difference in nurses’ job satisfaction based on their gender (t=2. 8, P=0. 005) and job experience (F=4. 95, P=0. 005). There was not a significant statistical difference in nurses’ job satisfaction based on their age. Conclusions: The results showed that nurses in the areas of payment, contingent rewards, fringe benefits and operating condition were least satisfied. Therefore, it is expected that the custodians pay more attention to economic components of nursing jobs and reduce unnecessary bureaucracy.

Abstract:

Introduction: Although self-esteem has an important role on predicting the symptoms of depression and mania in patients with mood disorders, this subject has been less paid attention to in numerous studies. This study aimed to determine the effect of occupational therapy on self-esteem activities in housewives with mood disorders after discharge from the hospital. Methods: In this randomized clinical trial, 75 housewives with mood disorders discharged from Ibn-Sina psychiatric hospital in Mashhad during 94-95, were studied in two intervention group (n = 35) and control group (n = 35). Occupational therapy intervention group (according to the model of psychosocial occupational therapy Cara), received 20 sessions each120 minutes, twice a week and the control group received routine care. The research tool was Cooper Smith self-esteem questionnaire which was completed both before the intervention and 2. 5 months after the intervention in both groups simultaneously. Data analysis was performed using SPSS 11. 5, Fisher’ s exact test, and paired t-test. Results: In the pre-intervention, there was no significant difference between the mean scores of self-esteem of intervention group (97/2 ± 11/4) and control group (95/9 ± 10/4) (P= 0/17). But considering the change in the mean scores of self-esteem before and after the intervention, there was a significant difference between the intervention group (13/8 ± 11/2) and control group (3/3 ± 9/6) (P< 0/001). Conclusion: Implementation of occupational activities can improve self-esteem in patients with mood disorders. Hence, it is suggested that occupational activities be paid more attention to even after the discharge from hospitals.

Abstract:

Introduction: The removal of the chest tube drainage is a painful experience for patients. Painless pain and patient’ s discomfort is associated with reduced chest dilatation, respiratory dysfunction with hypoxemia, increased sympathetic response to myocardial ischemia, and increased general response to tachycardia. The purpose of this study was to investigate the use of cold compresses before removing the chest drainage tube on the comfort of patients after cardiac surgery. Method: This was a randomized clinical trial with 120 patients undergoing cardiac surgery in Farshchian Hospital in Hamadan in 1395. The research units were randomly divided into three groups of interventional, placebo, and control groups of ICU patients undergoing cardiac surgery and had at least two duct drainage tubes. Cold compresses and placebo were placed around tubes for 20 minutes before removing the chest tubes. The patient’ s comfort level was measured using the visual analog scale (VAS) before, immediately after and 5 minutes after removal of the chest tube. Data analysis was done using SPSS16, Chi-square, and ANOVA. Results: There was no significant difference between demographic data in the studied groups. However, the average comfort score before, immediately after and 5 minutes after removing chest tube was significantly different in the groups (P =0. 000). Conclusion: The results showed that the use of cold compresses around the chest tube before the removal of tubes in patients undergoing heart surgery increases the comfort of the patients.
