A New Method for Estimation of Effective Wellbore Radius of Acid-Fractured Wells in Gas Condensate Reservoirs

Abstract

 Acid fracturing is one of the most efficient stimulation techniques in carbonate reservoirs. In Gas condensate reservoirs, this technique might significantly decrease liquid hold-up around the wellbore. That is the decrease in flow resistance makes it possible to produce from a fractured well at a higher bottom-hole pressure. This article provides a series of developed correlations for the estimation of the Effective wellbore radius of an acid-fractured well in a gas condensate reservoir. These include a couple of correlations for the estimation of fracture width and half-length. Then it will be shown how these dimensions can be used to estimate fracture conductivity and Effective wellbore radius. In Gas condensate reservoirs, because of condensate buildup around the fracture and also different velocity effects, fracture conductivity might be very different. These effects are discussed in the paper and the required correlation for estimation of Effective wellbore radius in Gas condensate reservoirs is presented. The correlation includes inertial and coupling effects as well as the influences of two-phase formation in the matrix and fracture. The introduced correlations can be very practical in the estimation of well productivity and also in reservoir modeling.
