Abstract

This paper reports on an analysis of relationship between FARM SIZE and TECHNOLOGY GAP RATIO (TGR) in WHEAT farms in KERMAN. In this study, a random sample of 658 farmers was selected in 2005. Samples collected from WHEAT farms are divided into three sizes; small, medium and large. The technical efficiency and TGR indices were computed using three approaches; pooled frontier stochastic production functions, group frontier stochastic production and the metafrontier approach. Results indicate that the technical efficiencies based on the three above approaches are respectively about 64%, 79% and 61% for small farms, about 62%, 72% and 42% for medium farms and about 61% 83% and 35% for large farms. TGRs at the small, medium and large farms 0.78, 0.57 and 0.42 are respectively that indicate the existence of a technology gap for different sizes.
