Abstract

One of the complex subjects in the HOMODYNE and HETERODYNE interferometers and teaching these subjects is the separation of the cycles of periodic error in one displacement measurement. Considering the type of affecting errors on the final output of the system in one full displacement, the cycles of periodic nonlinearity may be different. Practically and in the experimental setups, the error separation is impossible, because there are all factors. Therefore, it is needed to investigate and analysis each error affecting on the periodic nonlinearity for user’ understanding. On the other hand, in the laboratory, the optical setup of HETERODYNE interferometer needs a teacher-based practice to investigate each factor. In this paper, a teaching method is presented to understand the nonlinearity error by discussing the practical structures. This education is based on the theoretical analysis and then teacher-based practical observations.
