Abstract

So far, much research has been conducted on identifying obstacles to academic entrepreneurship. These studies have shown that academic entrepreneurship in Iran has largely failed because the failure to achieve the ideals and goals of academic entrepreneurship has become a widespread phenomenon. Therefore, the present research aimed to analyze the social roots of the failure of academic entrepreneurship by emphasizing Forum's approach to identifying the social roots of social phenomena. For this purpose, a qualitative approach and Grounded Theory method, a type of Emergent design, were used, and in-depth interviews were conducted with 14 experts in the field of entrepreneurship in the country. The purposive sampling method was used, relying on the theoretical saturation of the data. In addition, thematic analysis was used to analyze the data. The findings showed that the oligarchic system of entrepreneurship in Iran is the social root of the failure of academic entrepreneurship, which itself creates economic, political, legal, and cultural barriers. The oligarchic system of entrepreneurship makes impossible the Creative destruction that is necessary for the success of academic entrepreneurship.
