EFFECT OF SOLUTION CONCENTRATION ON (POLY VINYL ALCOHOL) NANOFIBERS STRUCTURE

Abstract

 In the present study, ELECTROSPINNING of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) has been attempted to generate various NANOFIBERS structures. The effects of polymer solution properties (e.g. BERRY NUMBER (Be) and polymer CONCENTRATION) on electrospinnability of the PYA solutions have investigated. Fiber morphology was observed under a scanning electron microscopy (SEM). For the polymer electrospun from low CONCENTRATION (Be<2.5), polymer droplets have formed. The polymer electrospun from semi-dilute solution CONCENTRATION (2.5<Be<4), was the formation of branched nanofiber. Uniform fiber formation was observed at 4<Be<7. Moreover, the polymer electrospun from concentrated solution (7<Be<9), resulted in the formation of flattened nanofiber. With increasing the PYA CONCENTRATION from 4 to 12 w/w %, the average NANOFIBERS diameter increased from 93±23 nm to 814±157 nm. The power law equation between the diameter of electrospun the PVA nanofiber (d) and its CONCENTRATION (C) is in the form: d=3.39C2.20.
