Abstract

 One of the problems in continuous casting of steel is that low melting point phases from BINDERs are developed and reacted with both permanent and consumable layers of TUNDISH, leading to interdiffusion and SINTERING of layers and making difficulties in DESKULLING and destroying the permanent layer. In this study three different complex silicate, phosphate and sulphate BINDERs are employed. SEM and XRD experiments have shown that magnesium sulphate is the best. It provides low temperature adequate strength, but no high temperature melting and SINTERING. By using this BINDER, DESKULLING is easily performed and permanent layer is not deteriorate.
