Abstract

The Sharp nose mullet, LIZA SALIENS Risso, 1810 is an economically important species of CASPIAN SEA. In this study MITOCHONDRIAL DNA SEQUENCING (mtDNA) of 16S rRNA was used in order to clarify genetic structure and GENETIC DIVERSITY of LIZA SALIENS in two regions of south part of CASPIAN SEA, i.e. Gilan (Anzali) and Golestan (Gomishan lagoon). According to results we obtained 552base pairsof16S rRNA sequence. A total of 7 different haplotypes and 33 variable sites were identified. The average haplotype diversity (h) and nucleotide diversity (p) in samples of two regions was 0.44 and 0.007 respectively. The results of genetic distance determination showed low rate in the2 regions. Estimates of gen flow indicated there is no reproductive isolation between two regions and also there was not significant genetic difference between the regions (p>0.05). Findings of the present study suggested that there is one population of LIZA SALIENS in the studied regions.
