Abstract

Generally, curing system and type of fillers are two factors that influence on the ABRASION RESISTANCE of tread tires. In this study, mixture of CARBON BLACK and NANOCLAY for reinforcement of compounds were used, also ELECTRON BEAM irradiation and sulfur have used as curing systems. According to the lower necessity of NANOCLAY for reinforcement of compounds and also use of ELECTRON BEAM irradiation for cross linking in rubbers, rubber compounds based on natural rubber (NR) and styrene butadiene rubber (SBR) with weight ratio of 70/30 and 25 phr CARBON BLACK containing 4 and 7%wt of modified NANOCLAY were prepared by melt mixing method and conventional sulfur curing system. Also, for investigation the effect of irradiation dose on the properties of samples, ELECTRON BEAM irradiation with three doses, 100, 150 and 200 KGy were used. As comparison, rubber blend samples that containing 35 and 50 phr CARBON BLACK without NANOCLAY were prepared as basis samples. The effect of NANOCLAY content and irradiation dose on the abrasion loss of samples was investigated by applying abrasion test. Also, other properties such as hardness and percentage of resilience were characterised. The results showed addition of 4 and 7 %wt NANOCLAY, abrasion loss reduced but sample containing 4%wt NANOCLAY has better properties than sample containing 7%wt nanocaly. Also, increase in irradiation dose, ABRASION RESISTANCE and hardness increased while resilience percent decreased that is probably due to decrease in polysulfide and disulfide bonds and increase in monosulfide and carbon-carbon bonds as well as cross linking density. These results confirmed with ATR-IR and swelling tests.
