Abstract

Iran is one of the most active seismic regions in the world, so that many earthquakes have been reported since 1900. It should be noted that comprehensive plans may leading to a good disaster management. Isfahan is an important historical and industrial city that faced with fewer earthquakes. The local events of Isfahan region has been recorded with five seismic stations of Isfahan network since 2004. In this study seismicity of Isfahan province have investigated based on SEISMOLOGICAL bulletins since 1900. Moreover, crustal VELOCITY STRUCTURE is determined based on TRAVEL TIME CURVEs of nearly 130 local earthquakes were recorded in Isfahan seismic network. Our results showed that the average velocities are as follow: Vpg =6.432±0.08 km/s, Vsg=3.58±0.11 km/s, Vpn=8.03±0.04 km/s and Vsn=4.72±0.06 km/s, the Moho discontinue depth is calculated 38±2 km. This study shows that 130 earthquakes are happened with magnitude greater than 4 during past four years and nearly 3670 earthquakes occurred this century within Isfahan province. The biggest earthquake located in northeast of Aran va Bidgol, with magnitude of M L=4.6 in 2005/9/22. Our investigation showed that a little migration of the seismicity can be seen from Zagros towards central part of Isfahan province.
