Abstract

The calcareous Pabdeh Anticline of Asmari Formation and in particular the ODIV MOUNTAIN in the north-east part of Khuzestan province has been seriousely faulted and fractured under TECTONIC forces. The TECTONIC activities, faulting, fracturing have provided favorable conditions for karstification of the ODIV MOUNTAIN. Geomorphologic phenomenon such as BIBITALKHUN SPRING, Taluk karstic valley and Karrens are hallmark of karst development in this area. Assessment of structural geology, geomorphology and hydrogeology in the study area show that: 1) ODIV MOUNTAIN karstification is more than the Gariveh Mountain and has the main karstic water resources, 2) Pabdeh Formation lying under the Asmari limestone is the base of karstification and acts as water barrier, 3) Transverse and oblique faults and fractures impact on limestone smashing and are playing a significant role to connect solutional conduits, 4) fractures density indicate underground permeable zones and water flow paths, 5) BIBITALKHUN SPRING is the main output in the study area and 6) water dominantly flows in the KARSTIC AQUIFER from NE to SW and SE to NW.
