Abstract

Studying of Iranian students abroad goes back to two hundred years ago when the first group of five students were sent by Abbas Mirza in 1811 (Hazeri, 1993). Since then, Iran has sent many students abroad. Historically, there has been an outflow of Iranian students particularly to the US and Europe particularly to the UK comparing with outer European countries. However, a survey in the literature indicates that there is a lack of research on these students attending in foreign universities. This paper outlines a history of the Iranian student attendance abroad and addresses the issues involving the problem that these students are facing in their academic and research success in developed countries. Particularly, UK is the main focus of the paper as the author has long experiences of studying and working in the education field in this country. The result of an investigation which has curried out by a group of experts in the UK is presented. Based on the authors’ experiences and the outcome of the research, some guidelines will be offered for students as well as policy makers to improve the management system of students dispatching abroad and to develop ACADEMIA, government and industry cooperation.
